Cow Questions

I have been asked 2 questions to address tonight at our meeting and I want to be sure that I am correct .

1st-If you have a calf or cow die and after several days rigormortis has NOT set it whats the problem? I say anthrax, at least thats what I have read.

2nd-cow eats the heads of Dallas grass when it seeds and gets "DRUNK" I know that this is a type of temporary state caused by the lack of oxygen to the blood but I can't think of the name for it. Something like Encott Posining, I can' remember. Does this require treatment or just go away with time?

Thanks to all,
Larry

Rigor mortis is frequently absent(or incomplete) with Anthrax but diagnosis on clinical signs can be difficult.

Toxicty with Dallis grass (paspalum diitatum) usually occurs form a fungi growing on the plant called Claviceps paspalli. This is an ergotism poison.http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/livestock/dairy/facts/87-016.htm
