Cowboy Oprey!!!

I meant to post this yesterday, but since I had to accompany 26 of Harding County’s smartest high school students
to Dupree to compete in Academic Olympics, I’m posting it a day late.

This picture was taken at the Cowboy Oprey in Lemmon, SD Tuesday evening. The lady holding the mandolin is
Syble Brown, a wonderful musician and the mother of the guy who started ranchers.net.

That’s Edna Smith second from the right. She is a sister of the locally famous auctioneer, Frances Haley, and
the fantastic piano player that accompanied Syble.

The lady on the left in white satin is Terry Henderson from Shawnee, WY. She's a rancher, poet and training
coordinator for the Shawnee rural fire department.

The man in the middle is Bob Penfield and the lady on the far right is his wife Winona.
The two of them started the Cowboy Oprey several years ago. Tuesday night was the 47th performance and was also Winona's birthday.

Did Bob ever get his book finished on Old Time cowboys? I remember he had a stroke about a year ago and I haven`t talked to him in a while.

I don't know if he finished it or not and I never think to ask him. His stroke really knocked him for a loop. One of the things the doctors are having him do for therapy is read out loud, so reading must have been soemthing he was giving him trouble.

I picked up a copy of Ed Lemmon's "Boss Cowman" book the other night and I just finished reading "The Roundup Years" by Bert Hall. I recommend them to anyone interested in real cowboy history.
