Cowboy Poetry and Music

If you want to listen and enjoy your afternoon on Sunday, the 3, come over to Devils Tower and take in the fun. Bring your field glasses so you can watch the climbers on the tower.
We start at 1 pm and will quit around 5.
There will be 10 performers, from novices to a couple who toured the British Isles. Oh yeah, I'll be there, but if you pay me enough, I promise to not spout poetry or music, but I might still have to tell a story or two!

Bring a picnic lunch and your lawn chairs and kick back and enjoy the afternoon. :)

There was a nice write up on this, along with a picture you you and a few others in the Belle Fourche newspaper. The one on the right of the picture looked like Jingles Jr. Does he play with you sometimes?

JB, does this mean you will be doing the poetry, singing and playing music, and climbing the tower, all at the same time?!!?!?  :D

Seriously, I would consider going out to Devil's Tower for the events, but I'm headed to Sturgis on Sun afternoon for a 90 yr bday party for my former neighbor lady who lives in town.

Tap, I found the writeup online, but didn't see a pic. Here is the article but don't know how long the link will be good. Click on "Cowboy culture at Devil's Tower"

Yes, he plays with me quite a lot and mostly we are ahorseback when we are playing, but he also plays guitar with me. Tho' I kind'a hate it when he does, cuz he can actually PLAY the guitar, I mean he goes up and down the neck and picks out notes, while I just chord and strum along. He don't like to sing very much, so it does work out real well.

He makes all of my music, much easier to listen to. I'm dang proud of that man. Wish he could say the same for me.

I'mn sure most of the crowd would appreciate it if i JUST climbed the tower.

And to tell the truth, if I was younger and had the equipment and stamina, I think it would be fun, to climb to the top. But then, I'd want a parachute or a hang glider, so I could just sail off from the top and hopefully survive, when I reached the bottom. Tho' if I just jumped, I'll bet it would get a better write up in the papers!

JB, I don't think you'd ever get me talked into climbing that tower. I just don't like getting up high that much. Don't mind being in an airplane though.

To the naked eye, the climbers on DT always reminded me of ants on a tree stump.

I'm not sure if Devil's Tower and Bear Butte are geologically related or not. Seems like BB is classified as a different kind of formation than the rest of the Black Hills, and so is DT?

I'm not sure, either.

I have climbed Bear Butte, tho. :D

I climbed Bear Butte once on the school Skip Day, in 3rd grade I think! :D Bear Butte does have one side of it that's almost like Devil's Tower. You could climb up, and then slide down! :D :D :D

-- Sure enjoyed the poetry get together last Sunday out at the Tower (that's one big rock!). Got there a little past 1 so missed the introductions but didn't need names to enjoy their talents. Had to leave early after a couple of hours to get home by dark to check the bog on my "little cow herd". Best 400 miles I ever drove on a Sunday. Thanks for the heads up about the event. A little bashful around such big crowds or would have come over and introduced myself. Sure pretty country out there! Thanks again!

Tumbleweed was there also.

I don't know about the crowd, but I sure enjoyed it.

I ain't sure which performer I enjoyed the most.

Send me a pm with your number or I'll send you one with my phone number, and we'll visit, without havin' to peck at this dang keyboard!
