coyote hunting

Best way to kill yotes is to have 25 roosters and put 15 of them out in the pastures. To let the yotes know what they are and how good they taste.

Then after a few weeks, take the last 10 one at the time, and tie him to a concrete block with nylon string while at your set-up a couple of hundred yards upwind. Preferably before daylight so they'll crow.

You should be 10 for 10.

The next best bait is a small puppy.

I have a jonny stewart electronic caller that works sweet. It is old school and runs off of sound cards that have 4 preloaded sounds per card. You can play two sounds at a time like rabbit distress and thrashing leaves. It is connected to a speaker with 100 feet of cord. Wish it was cordless and may have to hit santa up myself about an upgrade. Foxpro is the cream of the crop and primos make fine callers too. Just depends on your budget. Seems like the one foxpro model allows you to download like 150 different sounds. FYI, i shoot a winchester mountain rifle in .223 super short topped with a burris scope. 55 grain ballistic silvertips pack a punch. I don't reload but my dad-in-law does so i get him to cook me up some fun loads. :D

Mike, if you have ever staked out a puppy for real, i hope to hell you are a perfect shot when a pack of yotes shows up. Because that would be one fine way to get a pup ripped to shreds! :? Try that around me and i'd stake you out and see how that shoe fits. I hope you were kidding.

I Keep a diaphram style call in my mouth when calling. And if i knock down a yote and he has pals, i start yelping like a wounded dog like crazy. I have busted another one who stopped to think things over a time or two! :D Howling can be very successful during mating and after the pups are born. A territorial old dog yote will come a runnin if he thinks you are encroaching his turf even when he ignores a distress call. Cool pictures! The line about yotes "not knowing how many feet a horse has" made me smile. "Here pilgrim, skin this grizz and i'll get ya another"!!! :D :D :D We have a $50 bounty on yotes starting this year. Hope to buy me a new rifle with my ears i collect.
how do they keep from paying for Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming coyotes? see yotes trave across alot of lines when a bounty get involed

Santa brought me a Turbo Dog made by Primos, last year. Its an awesome call. Has 4 or 5 "expert" calling sequences on it. Part of the reason for getting it, is Randy lives just down the road from me. I have yet to get anything with it, but its not the calls fault. I just got to excited, and missed.

I shoot a beat up Savage 223, that never sees the inside of the house. Lives eats and breathes in a vehicle. I use it for everything from deer to hop rabbits, but then again I have a friend that brings me reloads. I think I have only bought 50 rounds for it, the whole time I have owned it. When I get serious about getting a big buck, I beg Lisa to let me use her rifle. Its a Ruger M77, in a 7mm mag remington. My Dad owned it, and had a bunch of reloads, that are loaded kinda weird, but they sure set a big deer on its tail, or side, which ever is easier.

You are supposed to have GPS coordinates for each kill and sign an official looking paper saying you aren't lying. But i am sure people will cheat cause it comes down to honestly and some folks aren't. :?

I love gun's, calibre's, reloading, fine tuning loads and every thing else that go's along with it. neighbor told me that i have one of everything and two of anything i use  he's not to far off :!: but it always boils down to shot placement ,how you acheive that and with what is up to each individual.

but a dead coyote is the true test. :D :D

read this interveiw when it came out, like Q no. 3  like the answer better  his credentials are among the best

Mike - I'll be honest, something about that post scares me...

Thanks, LazyWP and leanin' H, for adding in on the electric calls! I have never shot a 223, but my friend that used to go with me coyote all the time liked his...I should of shot it???

hayguy - that was a neat link, I thought question #3 and answer was neat also! I thought how often to clean your gun was interesting in there too. Boy, that guy answering gave short but solid to the point answers, I liked that!

My next gun will probably be some kind of pistol...to carry while working the ranch here....something not too big, but not too small... for anything that might come up. I don't know anything about pistols though.

I have a 30/30 and a scabbard I shoot off the horses and mess around with...pretty westerny, it is. I haven't ever shot anything with it yet though....need to!

I cashed in some cabelas points last year and got a primos alpha dog. I think is what it was called. Its pre loaded with tons of sounds and some pro calling series. I kind of got fond of shooting crows it has a neat crow call and when you shoot one and turn the call back on they come back for more

I've never hunted crow, but the guys that I have talked to that have, love it! They say it is a blast! ...and I see you like it as well.

shoot gopher's, build a nice little pile of them, go sit in shade under tree couple hundred yds back, wait for magpies

As close to Calgary as you are a box of Mickey D's french fries would probably draw in a flock of seagulls.

in the winter from he!! two years ago, the coyotes around here would cruise the ditches looking for Mickey D's, A&W, Wendy's or whatever any of our upstanding citizen's would chuck out there window on their way home from the big chitty. could have had several if drive-by shooting's were legal

:D ....that's funny! :D I can't imagine throwing food out the window.... :D I might of had to fight those yotes for some good fast food cooking. :D

My oldest boy and I went out calling a couple of evenings ago....no luck! He wants to start doing all the calling so I'll probably just let him.... :D
