Crab Apple Liquer{or chokecherry}

Katy wanted my chockcherry jelly recipe,I told her I'd find this one for her MOM to try for Crabapples or chokecherrys.Its sipping liquer,really easy and so good

Ingredients:
4 quarts crabapples
4 cups sugar
3 cups vodka

Procedure:
Take a 4 quart mason jar, and fill it with crabapples that have been washed and quartered (you could take the stems and cores out, but it makes no difference and is a lot more work). Add 4 cups of sugar and three cups of vodka. Store the jar on its side, turning once every day for 16 days to get the sugar to dissolve. After 16 days, filter out the fruit bits (Gertie recommends using a knee-high nylon stocking, as this can be suspended for a few days to get every last drop out), and bottle. This recipe can be done on nearly any scale from 1 qt. to 4qt. (I've never seen a mason jar more than 1 gallon), and two bottles of vodka will normally yield about five bottles of liqueur.

DO you think this would work with other fruits?? We dont have any crab apples :(
Yup it would,personally I like the vodka because it takes the flavour of the fruit better,but on the recipe it says

Ckokecherrys-scotch

raspberries -rum

saskatoons-gin

Don't use plums save that for the kucken,because the plums when fermented tastes alot like prunes

When I was 17 and just daying my future wife her 22 year old brother seemed way old to me..When I was 25 and just married her 39 year old brother seemed real old to me... Now that I am 32 her brothers don't seem real old but the 16 year olds I run into sure seem young :lol: :lol:

I need teh clues to figure out how old kids are these days. Are they talking about driving or going away to school, than I have an idea.. Without those tips they could be 12-16 or 14-18 and I might be struggleing to nail it down any closer.. They all seem... so young..

Yup they're orange coloured,ours are down at our pasture about 20 feet from the river edge.Really good jelly but when cooking them smells like dirty socks,actually if riding in the pastures down at river you can smell the ripened berries on the trees. Gregs dad used to pick red and black currents down there too,I loved the black current jelly,sadly I have no clue where those trees are :(

Greg feels the same way about berry picking that you do,and takin him along means cleaning all the leaves and sicks out of the pails,not worth it,and I'm sure done on purpose :lol:

We have hardly any Currants this year, fewer then normal Choke cherries and Saskatoons hardly at all this year. I wonder if we had a lack of bees to polinate. That was a problem some places I guess.
