for those that don't believe that the BIORAD test kit was developed by the French Atomic Energy Commission,

from BIORAD's site:

Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy (TSE) Testing Program
Bio-Rad has been supporting TSE testing laboratories since the beginning of the bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) crisis in Europe. Our continuous efforts to develop effective tools and innovative solutions have made our company a reliable partner for TSE experts worldwide.

Scientific Collaboration With the CEA (Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique — France)
Through our scientific collaboration with CEA’s scientists, Bio-Rad has developed original high-performance assays to diagnose TSE in infected animals. This original approach has allowed Bio-Rad to continually propose suitable solutions to the new challenges that arise in the BSE crisis.

Worldwide Leader in TSE Testing
With more than 30 subsidiaries throughout the world, Bio-Rad is directly involved in promotion, assistance, and technical support for TSE testing laboratories. This continuous commitment to customer satisfaction has made Bio-Rad the worldwide leader in TSE testing with a market share of more than 65%.

Production-Site Capacity
The Bio-Rad production site in Steenvoorde (France) is perfectly adapted to meet the demand for large-scale testing in the countries involved in systematic TSE screening or TSE-surveillance programs. The experience and skills of the production team have been fully dedicated to TSEs in order to guarantee the continuous production of reliable products. Bio-Rad produces more than 8 million tests for TSE screening yearly.

Quality
Quality is a continuous commitment for Bio-Rad. Our quality program involves every stage of the process, from research and development to customer support. This commitment to quality has been rewarded by official accreditation organizations in various countries, including Canada (CFIA), the USA (USDA), the EU, and Japan (MHLW).

What radiological requirements are needed for a TSE test?

Kathy,

The "CEA" has many avenues of research. NOT just atomic related matters.

They have a "Life Sciences" division with health related matters and medicine. A "Nanotechnology" division, an "Energy" division in which hydrogen derived energy is the main focus at the moment. Several others.

Don't let the name throw you into a tizzy.

Yes they have many agendas and areas of research Mike, but they also developed, quite some time ago, the technology to identify the markers for contamination of muscle and other tissue with radionuclides.
