Have to go out early afternoon before the snow gets soft and get calves back onto the feed and bed grounds. Other wise the snow gets soft and is deep enough they can't get back. The dang little buggers walk out on it in the morning and then lay down.
When we used to keep yearlings I hated this time of year they get on top of the crusted snow and step over fences and go for miles exploring. The nice thing was you could get the team and sleigh up on top and have a smooth ride instead of the bumpy trails and feed grounds.
