WASHINGON, D.C. - A new constitutional amendment proposed by U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) seeks to impose term limits on members of Congress. The amendment would limit U.S. House of Representatives to three two-year terms and U.S. Senators to two six-year terms.

Currently, there are no term limits on members of Congress. U.S. Senators may serve an unlimited number of six-year terms and members of the U.S. House of Representatives may serve an unlimited number of two-year terms.

“D.C. is broken, the American people resoundingly agreed on Election Day, and President-elect Donald Trump has committed to putting government back to work for the American people. It is well past time to put an end to the cronyism and deceit that has transformed Washington into a graveyard of good intentions.” Sen. Cruz said.

“Term limits are the first step towards reforming Capitol Hill,” said Rep. DeSantis.

“The time is now for Congress, with the overwhelming support of the American people, to submit this constitutional amendment to the states for speedy ratification. With control of a decisive majority of the states, the House of Representatives, and the Senate, we have a responsibility to answer the voters’ call-to-action. We must deliver.” Cruz continued.

That was discussed too. Cruz is aware of that very thing.

IMO-Too many un-informed voters that keep people in place simply because they recognize the name.
Or have promised hand-outs from now on.

It will be interesting for sure.

It is complicated, and should ideally be handed by elections. BUT.

in a safe district one amasses to much power and can never be unseated... Pissslucy is just one blatant example of that abuse

in districts such as ours on the east coast, we tolerate our local RINO as unseating him is a challenge and the fifty/fifty split nature of our district now would give a democrat a more then decent advantage..

in conservative districts the TEA party is working hard to resolve this by fighting in the primary and uniting in the general,
So another few ugly years of the sorts of pissLucy or change it back to a peoples house.

as for the senate,, I am a bit more mixed.

The reason most of these people keep getting re-elected is because the voters themselves figure their Rep or Senator are building their personal power up among the other members and backroom power brokers and that power relates to the amount of GOODIES they will bring home to their state. It is going to be really hard to get people/voters out of that mindset and make them see term limits will be a good thing to curb DC corruption.

In that case just disallow the "Pork" stuck in the Budget Omnibus Bills.

Easier said than done as most of those putting the pork in know that that "PORK" is what keeps getting them elected.

Then that would make "Pork" the never ending problem of the constituents, not the Politician. After all, they are supposed to meet the wishes of their districts, aren't they?

Like I said, we have term limits, they are called elections....................

Yes the pork is the problem but until the voters realize that the pork their rep or Senator is bring home to them to buy their vote is buying trouble down the road IE skyrocketing budgets and unbelievable national debt NOTHING is going to change.

To many people live on the idea that if someone gets a government handout no matter how bad they might need it, they are going to make sure they get as much OR more. If one University gets a million dollar research grant to study the habits of the drunk co-ed the next figures they need 1.5 million to study sex habits in China due to the added travel expenses and so on and so on. The elected officials know their delivering those money wasting grants is going to insure them a LONG POLITICAL LIFE.

Until the people are willing to jump off the gravy train and say WTF is going on with these ridiculous grants and punish their own elected official for doing it, again NOTHING is going to change. Everyone stands back and looks at the other guys elected official and blames them for the waste but are not willing to take their own wasteful elected official to task for his waste as the new guy might not be able to deliver the goods like the established crook.

Like I said, the problem is the constituent, not the politican.

I see too many Republican Senators that are kind of like bulls. After too many years they just get too damned lazy to jump on anything, but they bellar a lot so they still sound important. Wouldn't make me feel bad if they were forced to step down and help get a new one elected, instead of being an obstacle.
