Pretty sweet little girl. If you can make room in your life to give her a life she won't have otherwise, you're a good man!

Go for it. She looks like a cute little gal that needs a chance.

On second thought, maybe pray about it first. God can give you a clear direct answer.

She lives with her Grandma now who is almost 80 and not physically or financially able to keep up.

She stays with us a couple of nights per week and seems to enjoy us.

Quite a decision.........................

She thinks her Mommy is in the hospital. She asked my wife the other night if she would play like she is her real mother. We both went to bed with tears.

I doubt whether you could get legal adoption-- probably just a custody situation...And the problem I've encountered with custody-- even long term "permanent" custody's- is that they (the courts) always will give the birthparents back the child, if/when they can show the've straightened their act up a little bit and come in demanding it-- and I've seen folks that have raised kids for years get their hearts broken when the kids were tore away from them.... :(

I'd go for it-- but just be aware of what happens many times over...

Am I missing something here Oldtimer? How would that hurt Cassidy? You think Mike is adopting her because he wanted another kid? He's doing it to give her a better life I assume ...even if it's just for a little while it'd still give her something.

We sat down with a good lawyer and he explained just like you did, OT. Except he said she would be able to make up her own mind when she reaches 13.

We have thought about going so far as to take the grandmother in too. Cassidy loves her Maw-Maw.

Decisions, decisions. :?

Even a better deal.
I'm biting my tongue trying to not go off on a tirade that belongs in political bull. You're a lot better man than I thought you were Mike and I thought you were a pretty good fella.

:agree: with Hanta Yo....

RR: I think OT is just warning Mike about the potential reality, that he and Mrs. Mike could end up getting their hearts broken, even thought it's the right thing to do. Like OT, we live on/near a Indian Reservation. We have seen too many cases of White folks adopting Native kids, then the parents or even distant relatives wanting custody. The kids are taken away, given to the parents/family, and then often end up back in the same bad situation. Not only is it heartbreaking for the kids, but also very heartbreaking for the parents.

I agree, Mike, go for, and I hope and pray for the best for you, your family, and the little girl. She is indeed lucky and blessed to have someone like you all to care for her.

With prayers....

TTB

Do it. Even if you get your heart broke down the line, the young lady needs to have a MAN and a WOMAN as examples to set her life by. Too many kids today have no concept of what it is to be a man or a woman. Expose her to a couple of good ones before she is totally warped.

Do it Mike. Even if you can only make a difference in her life for a matter of weeks or months , she may remember what life CAN be.
We have taken in a couple of nephews over the years. Niether one worked for very long.......but my hope is that they at least have some idea of what a (semi) normal life is.
PS. I'd pretty much cut off my arm to have a little daughter that I could spoil rotten.I always avoided spoiling my boys so they wouldn't turn out to be candy-a$$es. :)
Just my 2 cents.

Do whatever you can...whether it's full custody or whatever.

No matter how you work it out she'll know that she can come to you and your wife no matter what happens to her later on.

Be her ' rock' and safe haven!
