Canada mad cow case delays Mexico import plans

(Adds government comment)

MEXICO CITY, Feb 16 (Reuters) - Mexico has postponed plans to reopen its borders to dairy cattle imports from Canada after a case of mad cow disease was found in an Alberta bull last week.

Enrique Sanchez, Mexico's head of animal health, told Reuters on Friday that Mexico would carry out new tests before considering allowing Canadian dairy cow imports.

"This means we have to go back and revise everything again," Sanchez said. "We were three months away from starting trade with Canada, but this is going to take one or two years, we don't know."
Mexico stopped importing beef and cattle from Canada following an outbreak of bovine spongiform encephalopathy in 2003.

It has since restarted imports of most beef and cattle products, and in December officials said dairy imports would be restarted soon.

Sanchez said one more case of mad cow disease in Canada would be enough for Mexico to close the two countries' beef and cattle trade once again.

Haymaker- You must have been doing quite a job organizing those Mexican R-CALF chapters on some of your trips south of the Rio -eh :???:

Since we know its only R-CALF and a few protectionists that think Canadian cattle are higher risk- and must be behind such an evil move as closing the border because of perceived health risks    :p

Wonder if I could transfer to the Cancun Chapter for January's and February's... :???:

The three Blind mice - the three blind mice - watch how they run, watch how they run. They all fell into the packers game, and came out with egg all over their face - the three blind mice.

Why is "protectionist" only a bad word in Canada? Am I supposed to feel bad for wanting to protect my cattle prices? I guess I should feel guilty for raising cattle the the US and wanting a decent price.

It is not so bad to want to protect yourself Work Hard - the problem is that a group of self interest Rcalf leaders have been using this legitimate need to protect your prices to BS you into thinking that Canadian cattle are causing you problems with your prices.

Packer control is causing you problems wihth your prices and nothing more. The BSE stituation is all about packer control. Including the packer led USDA stopping the Mexicans from buying breeding age holstein heifers from Canada.

You can keep following the three blind mice on this site or take a good look at what is going on.

As Canadians we are all wondering that and in fact that is always on most of our minds. What are you hoping for Porker or are you like the R-Klanners who have posted here and hoping that this may just be another nail in the coffin for Canada and its producers?

Mexico must recognize the fact that Canadian cattle are much higher risk- since they been taking US dairy heifers since last year...

Shows the difference when countries use True science instead of "Packers economics driven science"...
