Boy the nights are starting to get long again. Here it is 6:00 AM and I can't see a thing outside. Lots of the locals are ready for fall because of the lower fire danger and such, but I wish it was June again without the haying season. Just too many jobs to get done, and I don't like snow. Course in this country, no telling if we will get snow or not (other than Spring Blizzards  ).

We are to vaccinate some calves this AM, and just waiting for some daylight. It's in the mid 30's with a 35 MPH wind. Down from the 60MPH gusts of yesterday. And it was in the 90's just a few days ago. Must be SD.

There is just barely a bit of a glow to the east here, with overcast and windy conditions. Looks like it will blow at least 20 mph all morning and diminish a little bit later this afternoon, with a high temperature up around 57 degrees. Time to dig out the winter coat and vest.

Our project for the day is to have the vet preg check 213 yearling heifers. We will also double tag them with their permanent new numbers and year-brand their left shoulders with a "5". We have a pretty good-sized pasture to round up, and the vet is scheduled to be here at 9 a.m.

Oh, for the life of a cowboy. :???: :? :)

Tap, how much moisture did you get?

Got a Vigortone truck coming this morning and to make a drop
at another ranch. I just called and he can't get in there, road is too
soft. They got an inch of rain. We got 8 tenths. Still windy, but
I don't think we got the wind as bad as you did.

Well, this should bring some fall grass. YIPPEE.
The rain was really needed and welcomed.

I hope everyone got some this time around.

And Lilly, I hate the changed of time too. I wish they would just leave
it one way or the other, I don't care which.

I like it how it is in the summer time. makes much more sense in our business to have a lil longer daylight in the evenin's. If your a early mornin before day light kinda person, it don't matter when the sun comes up, you can get up before it starts shinin. But alot of us do things in the evenin's. Such as feedin. Feedin in the evenin in winter, when we start havin calves, seems to help the cows have their calves in the daytime more than at night. It's a pain to hafta go out and feed in the dark. LOL I hate it when a black cow sneaks in right behind me and I don't know she's there while I"m pullin hay string off the bale or whatnot. Specially when it's cold and rainy......lol and ya feel yer backside get warm all of a sudden......whoaaa!!! Hot cow breath on the behind.....HELLO!!!!!!

I like the shorter days  , it would be fine if they left the time one way or the other. But we seem to work from daylight til dark, then have to cook, do laundry etc etc so I'm fine with shorter days!

FH, we got robbed in the rain dept. Just a few hundredths at the most. We had enough wind to clean the air if it needed it. The little dab of rain did help keep the dust down for the cattle working, so I shouldn't complain.

Nov 15th to Feb 15th pretty much stinks in the lenght of day department regardless of what they do with day light... I almost wish they would jump ahead two hours in spring as I would prefer a 7am sunrise to a 6 am one or whatever it is it at the peak of summer. I tend to be one who can't sleep at night but wakes up with the sun... The summer gets awfull long sometimes..

When I spent a month in Alaska during the middle of summer way back when it was god awful with sunsets at 11 and sunrise at 4... Didn't seam to bug me to bad but I was only 16 back than and seemed to have a lot more energy than I do now... Must have been the clean living back than
