DC Region Recovers From Biggest Snowstorm in Years
Region cleaning up after biggest storm of the season

WASHINGTON -- A winter storm warning meant one thing for the D.C. area: snow day!

Snow emergency plans were in effect because of the winter storm. In Washington, Mayor Adrian Fenty declared a snow emergency

ironically that "Biggest snow storm in years" was the spring 09 storm.... now we have a fall 09 snow storm.. that will make it look like a a dusting..

sure a good thing Obama is rushing back from Copenhagen to manage the DC snow removal... cause they won't have a clue what to do in DC with a foot of snow...

Did you see the blizzard in 1996 that roared up the east coast? Much worse than this? It chased me all the way to NH. Most snow I had seen since I left the mountains in Germany!

Yall are talking like the storm is OVER LOL nawww its still snowing. I am watching the cams on I-81 giving shoer info so he can get to Manassas. Oh well he will end up sitting untill (hopefully) Monday.
Roads look good untill you get Dillon then you cant see when you get as far as Ralphie. I went all the way up to I-66 and there is no traffic on the cams you see through.
He took Missy out while sitting waiting on the traffic to get moving and when she went into the snow all he could see was the tip of her tail......
Oh well as he always say ....oh no we're all gunna die its the end of the world LOL

the posted article was for the "spring" Major snow storm... I used an old article to show that even with DC getting two major snow storms.. a late spring storm and a late fall storm.. the liberal media wants to make out like both were the worst in decades,.. yet global warming is a pressing issue...

I've seen a few snow storms that roared past over the last 22 years,.. and no matter how much or how little snow we get, until you get north of New York it paralyzes the cities and brings most everything to a standstill... and each one is far enough apart for the media to describe it as the historical major storm of the century..

Not sure if I could explain how I found this LOL but
THIS IS A SNOW STORM

wow.. that was some amount of snow... Mountain snow can be treacherously deep..

growing up and living in South Dakota, I am amazed at how unprepared the east coast is for even the small snow storms.. and how every storm that is over an inch or two becomes the worst storm of the century.. while this one has hit them unprepared again... the only thing truly historic is that they are often unprepared for every storm...

I guess it shows people dont want to learn. I know when I was in NC I was ready for either snow or hurricans and had plenty of stuff.
I am trying to learn how to drive on snow......not much as of yet but I am still stocked if I get caught at home and have my go bag in my truck if I am stuck at work. I keep hoping more will wake up and get their act together.......government is not our parent ..we are responsible for taking care of ourselves.
Sorry got on my soapbox....stepping down handing you back your thread and apologizing for hyjack

some people need to start taking care of themselves.. and be prepared.. just as most rural folk have been for generations..

a snow storm should not be a disaster.. a day off from school and work.. a bit of time in the house.. sure.. but a disaster... ??? snow wouldn't be declared a disaster if we were all prepared and didn't require the national guard to dig us out..

I remember watching a news correspondent from Canada being interviewed during one of the many storms of a lifetime that hit D.C. He said the most dangerous part of one of these storms is the fact that no one knows how to drive on snow. He said he was staying home due to local drivers, not due to snow. 8)

In our area, it's not so much deep snow that causes trouble, it's the wind. West of Winnipeg, there is a flat open stretch of the Trans Canada Highway that has flourescent posts every hundred feet or so. There isn't a hill for a hundred miles, but the highway is marked like it's the mountains. I'm sure people from other places wonder why all the posts are there, when it's so flat. I've driven through there on snowy days when all you could see was from one post to the other, and they are the only way to stay on the road. When you can't see the distance between the posts, the road is closed.

It gets closed a lot. You drive on the road when it's closed, and you have no insurance. And no one will come and get you.

A good snow day is just a good reason to bake cookies, watch a movie, and enjoy.... once the cows are all taken care of. A winter without being snowed in at least a few times is very unusual for us. Those are the winters we remember, not so much the storms that we just assume are going to happen.
