Have steer calf that was born 3-31.
yesterday morning he was humped up by the fence. Figured he was chilled due to the rain and snow. Rolled out 2 straw bales.
At around noon we went into town and he was laying like a normal calf in the middle of the lot.
Came back around 2pm and he was flat out.
Grabbed him and took him to the barn and put him in the hot box.
turned him over in an hour. He was not responding.
We didn't have any anti toxin we have used in the past for overeating, but hubby gave him some Bovi sera.
He was dead at around 6pm.

Called the vet. Still waiting to hear from him.
Hubby doesn't want to have him posted, but I do.

We give the calves Alpha 7 at birth.

Any ideas?

Pneumonia can take them fast at that age, as well as a perforated ulcer . Could be a multitude of things, necropsy may or may not give you an answer either .
Sorry about the calf.

Still haven't heard from the vet. He's been busy though. Told us last time he was here he has had 7 days off since Dec. 22 of last year.

really stinks HD we were finally getting our numbers up. That made number 7 we have lost this year.
3 premies
1 laid on by the cow
1 kicked by the cow
1 by predator
1 unknown

I'll pm you about a different issue
