Well...that's the diagnosis on the laptop  But I guess it's better that it done it now, than a couple months from now. Warranty on the thing runs out in May. It's bein sent off to get new innerds. I only lost pictures from March 6th till now. Everything else I'd been saving to disk. (Wheww)

And thanks to RanchersNet, and postin pictures I can go back into my Photobucket and save most of em that I lost.

Wonder how long it'll take for the laptop to make a trip from Texas to Kentucky and back? (that's where it's goin this time, last time it went to California and came back not fixed)

Good luck, Lilly. I've kinda been through this before, too. Luckily we bought the big computer from a place in Billings that services thier computers. I would hate for my laptop to go haywire...take lots of notes so when my laptop dies you can point me in the right direction :!:

Well from what the man told me at Best Buy...it'll basically be a new computer when I get it back.

I do know from past experience, that the recovery disk don't always work like it's supposed to. Their instructions on our disk was all wrong. To put it mildly, I was not at all happy with the Geek Squad the last go round. It finally worked when the fella did it at the store...but he pushed totally different buttons than what the disk instructions say to do. I said, well gee whiz, if I'd had the right instructions. I coulda done that myself. Oh well, live and learn.

I know what you mean about the Geek Squad..I tried dealing with them once and they were worthless...in fact Best Buy wouldn't honor the replacement, so I had to go through the company, and they were very helpful. I hope they get your laptop fixed right this time...and like you said, thank goodness it happened before the warrenty ran out...Is technology wonderful??? :?

It's a Toshiba. And have had it for almost 3 years. Sept was the first problem, and now this. Other than these two times it's worked great. I think they fix these things to break down after a certain length of time and then you hafta buy somethin else LOL
I've been lookin a gettin a new laptop for a while now. One that is geared more toward photography. I found one yesterday for 699.99. I don't remember what brand it was. I got to noticing the screens on all of them, they have a glossy finish that reflects like a mirror....I don't know if I like that. But it is on ALL of the laptops. And they all have Windows Vista version...somethin else new to learn if I buy one. LOL

Yesterday while wonderin around in the store lookin, I found a deal that you can set the laptop on, called a "cool mat" or soemthin like that. It's supposed to help keep em cooler. I know the one I have gets fairly warm, but I always had it setting on a flat surface, not just on my lap.
I may invest in one of those lil mats this go round. I also want somethin that will stablilize it, while it's open. They didnt have anything like that at Best buy, but I know they do make a deal to do that. While it's open it holds the screen, so that it can't move much.
I was lookin at a compaq (I think) Just don't know if I'll like that Windows Vista edition of windows. :? I hate havin to learn new stuff LOL

Lilly, just a word of caution on the Windows Vista, I know someone
who got that and had it removed from his computer because the
bugs aren't out of it yet and there were lots of problems with
it. Of course, this is just one person's experience, but you might
ask how problem free Vista is compared to other versions of
Windows.

Again, FWIW.

FH, I did ask that question, but of course the sales person said, "Oh no one's having any problems with Vista" I thought to myself, uh huh sure. The question I didnt ask ( and should have) is....if I buy a laptop, can you install XP on it free of charge. You'd think if your spendin that much money on it, you can get what you want on it. I'll hafta remember to ask that when I go back to pick up the laptop when it's fixed.

I have also heard the same thing that Windows Vista takes alot to run it, and all the bugs aren't worked out yet...I'm hopeing that my laptop will last awhile longer, cause I'm sure not ready to buy a new one yet. My poor laptop is the one that we take out to the chute to work cattle, and even though I put a "condom" on it...it still gets alot of dirt in it...and I like to take it outside on nice days and sit in my swing and work on it...It's a Dell and it too gets hot....Good luck with your old one, and maybe it'll be just as good as new!
