Decoration Day

My grandmother always called Memorial Day, Decoration Day; we went to 3 local cemeteries today where family members are buries. Flowers and Flags everywhere, we missed the VFW color guard. We saw them in Afton at their last stop at the VFW’s Vietnam memorial and a memorial there for all other Valley Veterans.
Jody Albert’s head stone is not in place yet, we ordered it too late this spring, but there was a flower there and someone had welded out of horseshoes a big flower. Dad’s grave had a Flag flying over it right next to Jody’s.
Remembering going every year as long as I can remember.

While my grandmother was living I used to go to the cemetary to decorate graves with her, my mother, and an aunt. Now as an adult I still see the importance of it and take my children along to do it. My grandparents were deceased before I had children and yet this is one opportunity to talk of them and the importance of them in my young life with my children. I'm one of the few grandkids that decorate graves and I think it goes back to being taken along as a young child and seeing the tears of those older then me as they shared memories of those they had lost.
