Democrat Hypocrisy

Mike

Well-known member
U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, isn't exactly seen as a congressional sage.

She is disliked by many members of her own party, and her former aides once helped her get ranked as one of the worst members of Congress to work for.

But she is still a congresswoman, and still often uses the power of her office to shape the public debate. She used this power on Wednesday when she stood to oppose the lawsuit being planned by the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.

The lawsuit objects to President Obama's tweaks to the health care law without seeking congressional amendments. Republicans believe President Obama is violating legislative process and abusing his own executive power. But it's a proposed lawsuit, not impeachment.

Jackson Lee got up Wednesday to oppose the lawsuit authorization, which eventually passed. Jackson Lee said the lawsuit is a veiled impeachment attempt.

But she didn't stop there -- maybe she should have.

Jackson Lee said: "It is a historical fact that President Bush pushed this nation into a war that had little to do with apprehending terrorists. We did not seek an impeachment of President Bush because as an executive, he had his authority."

Someone noticed this remark, and wrote to PolitiFact, the fact-checking website owned by The Tampa Bay Times. Jackson Lee was immediately given a "mostly false" stamp by the fact-checking website.

Why? Because Jackson Lee was one of the co-sponsors of a resolution calling for the impeachment of President George W. Bush in 2008.

PolitiFact says: "A dozen House Democrats in 2008 did introduce a resolution seeking the impeachment of Bush. And Jackson Lee was one of the measure's 11 co-sponsors."

That's some big hypocrisy.
