This ran in the Valley Courier, our local valley paper, yesterday. Isn't it just great when they get caught with their pants down it's always somebody else's fault, like in this case an evil 'tea party' member who exposed their program. I guess they learned that behavior from their 'dear leader'.

ASU government course questioned, canceled

ALAMOSA — National political watchdog reports have singled out Adams State University for offering students course credits for volunteering on Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign.

ASU has since nixed the opportunity the Obama Campaign initiated, claiming lack of student interest, according to Julie Waechter, the Assistant to the President for Communications at Adams State University.

“This controversy arose when an Adams State employee, affiliated with the Tea Party, posted the internship announcement on his blog and inferred students were being compensated for the work with state funds,” Waechter wrote in a Sept. 6 email. “This is absolutely not true. The internships are purely volunteer.”

On August 29, Campus Reform, a blog designed “to provide conservative activists with the resources, networking capabilities and skills they need to revolutionize the struggle against leftist bias and abuse on college campuses,” reported the course appeared “to have violated the Colorado Fair Campaign Practices Act, section 1-45-117, which bans the use of public resources for ‘campaigns involving the nomination, retention or election of any person to any public office.’”

According to original ASU website post that is no longer accessible, “The Obama Campaign Internship (GOVT279 Presidential Election Internship) will be a 12 week long organizing internship for the Obama Campaign. The program offers high-level campaign organizer training and in-depth involvement in one of the closest and most expensive Presidential races in recent history.”

“The intent of the course was to provide any student involved in any campaign an opportunity to reflect and analyze, in an academic setting, their volunteer campaign experience with what they have learned about the campaign process from textbooks and prior coursework,” Waechter wrote. “The course is intended to be a bipartisan opportunity that would enrich the educational experience of ASU students.”

She added, “There was an error in the name of the course when it was posted on the internal Campus Announcements website. It should simply have been listed as Presidential Campaign Internship, not Obama Campaign Internship.”

ASU did inquire of the Mitt Romney campaign for similar opportunities and was told none were available, she explained. Two ASU students are currently volunteering with the Obama campaign, but not registered in the independent study course. One current student is interning with Scott Tipton’s office; others have completed such internships in the past.

ASU History, Government and Philosophy Head Ed Crowther was associated with the course, according to the ASU website post.

Last week, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) State Director Jeff Crank requested Colorado Lt. Gov. and Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Education Joe Garcia “to undertake an expedited official inquiry into potential illegal or unethical activities at Adams State University,” according to a AFP press release.

“Coloradoans have a right to know whether the Obama campaign succeeded in convincing a taxpayer-funded university to offer college credits to students engaged in partisan political activities,” Crank wrote. “...To know who at the school, or higher-up in the education hierarchy, may have known about, or approved, such a scheme. Coloradans also have a right to know the complete story when such information is still relevant, as in during this campaign.”

According to Associated Press reports, the University of Colorado in Boulder has 13 undergraduates participating in political internships this semester, with nearly half interning for Romney. The students must complete a campaign-related research project to receive credit for their work.

Young voters have traditionally leaned Democratic, and Obama put special emphasis on young campaign workers going back to his days as a presidential hopeful, according to the report. A “Students for Obama” website tells students that course credit for campaign work is up to their schools.

“Contact your college/university with questions regarding college credit. The campaign cannot guarantee that you will receive college credit for work as an organizing fellow,” the website reads.

In 2008, voter turnout among those 18 to 24 was at its highest level since 1972.

Obama’s Colorado election strategy is focused on students, according to the report. In the last year, the president has spoken to students at a Denver high school and to students at the Auraria Campus in Denver. He visited Colorado State University in Fort Collins and made two trips to the University of Colorado in Boulder.

In an Associated Press-GfK poll, 54 percent of registered voters under 35 said they would vote for Obama, compared to 38 percent for Romney. Older voters split about evenly.

The thought of millions of junior "Community Organizers" running around is scary.

A college course on "Community Organizing" is even scarier............

Obama proclaimed the US needed a well armed civilian army. so are you surprised he is using US Universities to man it.

He has those that have graduated sitting on Un employment living in the parents basements staying on their parents healthcare until they are 26 years old not wanting to lose their meal ticket. And now he has those still in college and looking to go to college wanting his tuition cuts and free credits and all they have to do is hit the streets for him and assure he is reelected. I'm guess those student taking the colleges up on the free credits are those who are also getting INCOMPLETES in their classes LIKE OBAMA. They too want something they have not worked for and do not deserve.
