Did Daniels make a big mistake

To me, Mitch Daniels made a very big mistake. He allowed the run away Dems to force the Republicans to pull a piece of legislation. He pulled the highly objected Right to Work Leg. and now he has them demanding he "Negotitate" 11 more of his agenda items to get them to return to do their jobs.

One of the most contentious issues, "Right to Work" legislation was declared dead on Wednesday by Indiana Senate President Pro Tempore David Long (R-Fort Wayne), but House Democratic leaders say they want Republicans to agree to negotiations on 11 other pieces of legislation before they agree to return from exile at an Urbana, Illinois hotel.

And, labor leaders say they don't trust Republicans to keep their word.

"That language can be inserted into any other bill down the road," said Jeff Harris, Indiana Director of the AFL-CIO."

He was held hostage and the hostage takers/Union Bosses won. What is next toss the whole Republican agenda and adopt the Dems/labor union agenda to get them to come back to the State.

If he is not going to stand strong against the Dems/Unions in his own State will he stand strong for the nation when the Dems walk instead of talk to protect their campaign funders. There should be laws passed if a legislator walks out and leaves the state to avoid doing their elected job they are RECALLED and a By-election is called to replace them ASAP. If a private employee walked out and refused to do their job they would be fired why not an elected official. Blackmailing a Governor with your attendance is wrong on so many levels but allowing them to win is even more wrong. They Win once and no government is safe from the same crap actions.

for the life of me I can't understand why the Right to Work rules can exist in this country and why we need a bill to correct such and unAmerican policy?

Right-to-work laws are statutes enforced in twenty-two U.S. states, mostly in the southern or western U.S., allowed under provisions of the Taft-Hartley Act, which prohibit agreements between labor unions and employers making membership or payment of union dues or fees a condition of employment, either before or after hiring.

before the Taft-Hartley amendments, an employee who ceased being a member of the union for whatever reason, from failure to pay dues to expulsion from the union as an internal disciplinary punishment, could also be fired even if the employee did not violate any of the employer's rules.

The Taft-Hartley Act outlawed the closed shop. The Act, however, permitted employers and unions to operate under a union shop rule, which required all new employees to join the union after a minimum period after their hire. Under union shop rules, employers are obliged to fire any employees who have avoided paying membership dues necessary to maintain membership in the union; however, the union cannot demand that the employer discharge an employee who has been expelled from membership for any other reason.

Section 14(b) of the Taft-Hartley Act goes further and authorizes individual states to outlaw the union shop and agency shop for employees working in their jurisdictions. Under the open shop rule, an employee cannot be compelled to join or pay the equivalent of dues to a union, nor can the employee be fired if he or she joins the union. In other words, the employee has the right to work, regardless of whether or not he or she is a member or financial contributor to such a union.

The Federal Government operates under open shop rules nationwide

closed shop rules of forced unionization are tyrannical in nature and should be outlawed

The thing that Daniel, Walker and all other Republicans Governors that face Dems leaving the state to avoid a vote, should do is pass a non finance RECALL bill. If the Dems want to keep their cushy jobs then they will get their butts back to work. If they want to play childish games of Hide and Seek then treat them like private employers would REPLACE THEM . We all know if the shoe was on the other foot and the Republicans were on the lamb, the Dems would not hesitate to pass non budget laws the Republicans didn't support just to show them who is in charge. Instead of being held hostage, why not take a page from their play book and beat them at their own game. Letting them get away with this is only going to encourage Dems in other Republican controled states to follow suit and walk out holding other Governors Hostage. I can see this being a big lose for tax payers across the Country and the Dems have proven the cost of their actions mean nothing when it comes to protecting their personal interests and those of the UNION BOSSES that finance them.

pass a non finance RECALL bill.

in every constitutional body there is often a procedure to vacate or remove a non active member.. or a recall.. and I agree they should act on it now..
