Most newer diesel trucks have hour meters as sell as odometers on them.

Take your total miles and divide it by the total hours to get an average MPH based on engine hours. Bet you can't top mine. 30989 miles in 686.6 engine hours or 45.2 average.

Totally useless statistic, but interesting, nonetheless.

When i lived in Montana, right on the interstate my new truck was averaging a little more than that for a short time... Than it dropped real low.. Have no idea what that one is at now.. My Diesel is probably more around the 30 mph area.. Too much time just ideling while I am loading or unloading... Should turn the stinker off.

Are those meters in "Hobbs" time or "Tach" time?

The "Tach" time goes slower for lower RPM's and faster for higher "Rpm"s.

The "Hobbs" time only tells the duration of time the engine is running.

Just wondering.

My truck doesn't have an hour meter that I've found, my surban however
has averaged 42.5 miles per clock hr. My '99 Case IH tractor records hobb hours which I don't like. I can't believe there isn't more wear and tear on an engine pulling hard at 2,100 rpm than loafing at 1,100 rpm.
Which brings to mind a question. How do these oil change messages figure percent oil life remaining ??
