There was also a brief jab at Republicans.

"Teachers, and firefighters, and policemen, whose jobs are now in jeopardy because congress, well let me be specific, because the Republicans in congress ..."
Before she could finish her sentence, people in the congregation were laughing, and applauding.

At the end of Sunday's sermon, after Jarrett had delivered her remarks to the congregation, the church held a voter registration drive.

Conservative leaders endorse Santorum, hope to boost his S.C. campaign

A group of about 150 leaders from evangelical conservative groups across the country have endorsed Rick Santorum for president, vowing to support him financially in the week before the pivotal South Carolina Republican primary.
"You will see these organizations engaging openly on his behalf -- especially in the state of South Carolina," Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, told reporters on a conference call Saturday afternoon.
Santorum has been struggling with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich for the support of South Carolina evangelical conservatives. Shortly after the Iowa caucuses, polls showed Santorum and Gingrich in a dead heat behind front-runner Mitt Romney. But three polls released Friday showed Santorum had fallen to third and, in one poll, fourth place.


The conservative group, which met at a private ranch outside of Houston, voted three times on who to support for president. Support fluctuated between Santorum and Gingrich, Perkins said, before more than two-thirds voted for Santorum.In the final tally, Santorum received 85 votes out of 114 -- a smaller total because Perkins said some voters had left to catch flights.

So are you saying religious folks shouldn't be able to support and speak out supporting a candidate?... The candidates seem do it.... The Churchleaders seem to do it...

Or would you discriminate against government workers 1st Amendment rights and/or their rights to campaign for and vote for their chosen candidate ?

Nobody should use the bully pulpit of the President's office to speak out against political opponents at a church and then have a voter registration drive at the church afterwards. But, I suppose that's okay with you?

Sounds to me like this was organized by the Church if they were lined up to have a voter registration after the service...Was she invited to speak?...Incumbent candidates or their staff are often invited to speak at public events- including Church..

Hiring teachers is at the discretion of local school boards. Hiring police and firemen is at the discretion of the local municipalities. 12 Washington State High School Students Suspended for Public Prayer Group

On Wednesday, a group of high school athletes at a Long Island school were suspended for staging a spontaneous bout of Tebowing in their high school's hallway.

According to Connor Carroll, a senior at Riverhead (N.Y.) High on the North Fork of Long Island, the Riverhead administration handed out one-day suspensions to four student athletes after a group of Riverhead students decided to spontaneously hold a group Tebowing session in the school.

While as many as 40 teens (with some participants representing nearly each athletic program in the school) joined in on the spontaneous in-school Tebowing, only four -- Carroll and his brother, Tyler Carroll, both of whom are football and baseball players, as well as Wayne Drexel (also a football player) and Jordan Fulcoly (a soccer player) -- were handed one-day suspensions for what can only be described as somewhat specious reasons: Blocking the school's hallways.

It's always good for a laugh, Oldtimer, when YOU accuse somebody else of having a double standard. :lol:

Newt isn't an employee of the Executive Branch on official business, so I don't really care what he does. But, President Obama sent several of his minions out to make appearances for MLK day. Those shouldn't have been used to make political points, should they?

Democrats Desecrate Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Legacy

Americans celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday to honor his contributions to our Republic. His struggle against racial prejudice and discrimination brought the words of the Founders–"that all men are created equal"–to true fruition.

Dr. King used non-violent protest, and an appeal to universal principles, to bring Americans together. His birthday should be a holiday that unites us.

Instead, Democrats are using it to divide Americans.

Consider the sermon offered by White House adviser Valerie Jarrett yesterday, at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta where Dr. King preached. She told the audience: "Teachers, and firefighters, and policemen, whose jobs are now in jeopardy because Congress–well let me be specific–because [of] the Republicans in Congress."

Those in the audience laughed and applauded at Jarret's brazen–and false–partisan attack.

Democrats have rewritten the history of the civil rights struggle to portray Republicans as the villains, when in fact most segregationists were Democrats. Republicans, in fact, voted for civil rights laws in greater proportions than Democrats. Moreover, Dr. King himself had been a Republican. Regardless, Dr. King was careful not to divide Americans along party lines in his struggle for justice–nor would he approve of it today.

Another Obama administration official who is exploiting Dr. King's memory for political gain is Attorney General Eric Holder, who used the holiday to renew his attack on voter ID laws in South Carolina, falsely claiming they are racially discriminatory.

It is Holder, in fact, who practices racial discrimination by refusing to apply voting laws equally, notably in the New Black Panther Party case, an open-and-shut example of voter intimidation.

Holder appears to be coordinating his battle against voter ID laws with the (NAACP), which likewise exploited Martin Luther King, Jr. Day for political purposes. (The NAACP is not non-partisan when it comes to voting rights; it only cares about Democrats, as I learned firsthand last July.)

Dr. King cared passionately about voting rights, but never would have condoned voter fraud, which does occur and which voter ID laws–likewise passed by Democrats, whom the NAACP is not targeting–aim to prevent.

Perhaps most insidious of all is the effort by Democrats and their radical allies in the Occupy movement to turn Dr. King's legacy into an opportunity to set the "99 percent" against the "1 percent." That was the message at "Occupy the Dream" services in Chicago, where one incendiary pastor even encouraged people to seize homes.

It is true that Dr. King turned his attention to poverty, in Chicago and elsewhere, in the years before he was brutally cut down. He pushed for an end to residential segregation, and for the introduction of open-housing laws.

But Dr. King would never have advocated theft or violence to property. And though he favored economic redistribution, Dr. King opposed the violent tactics, bigotry and criminality often seen at Occupy demonstrators.

There is no doubt that Dr. King would have seen the election of America's first black president as a partial fulfillment of his dream. But he would have rejected the divisive rhetoric of the Obama administration, which is stoking class resentment and playing up past racial divisions for political gain.

Attorney General Holder once called America a nation of racial "cowards." On Dr. King's birthday, let us celebrate his courage–and ours.

When I was a kid, we all started off the school day with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. But, you liberals/socialists have stopped all of that. And all you have to do is to look around you at the young people these days to realize that it wasn't any societal improvement to do so.

Oh I didn't know for prayer to be considered prayer it had to be aloud. This is why you can never stop anyone from praying anytime, anywhere. We better get this straightened out in all the church services in America. :shock: Personal relationships aren't necessarily meant to be exposed--they are just that, personal, imo. I have seen lots of people go to the alter to pray, I have yet to see one pray aloud. Yes, there are leaders of prayer who pray aloud but the congregation most of the time is silently praying along with the leader in the church services I've been to.
