Do you buy extended warranties??

Seems like everytime I buy something, the store offers a warranty.
Yesterday I bought a new office chair and they asked if I wanted to
buy an extended warrenty on it. :???:

I can't believe that warranties are offered on most every kind
of merchandise. Just wondering what most folks here think about
that. Is it just a way for the store to get more money for a product
or is it something that has become necessary as almost everything
is made overseas and not reliable? I've really never believed in purchasing them, but now I'm beginning to wonder.

I can understand extended warranties on computers and perhaps
high-tech stuff, but how about stoves, refrigerators, rings (yes rings),
vehicles, cameras, washers/dryers, etc??????

I bought extended warranty when I bought Ol' Red, best money ever spent.

Thankfully Arctic Cat didn't know what they were getting into even though the dealer did. :D

I got my first one in probably 10 years two months ago. Generally my policy is that I've more then paid for a few of the items I've purchased if they were to fail because I declined to pay for the extended warranty. But the recent purchase was a Champion generator from Tractor Supply. It was a reasonable price, but it's made in China. If anything is going to fail, it's probably that generator. I don't even need to keep the receipt, they can just bring my name up in the computer and it's all in there.

I always buy extended warranties when I buy a new appliance; with the new technology something is bound to go wrong. The month after my standard warranty expired on my dryer the control panel went screwy, had I not had warranty it would have cost us over $500 to fix ..

Our treadmill has extended warranty as well, what a lemon it has turned out to be. If they have to come out one more time we get a brand new one .

Shauna did on her front load washer which is good because it's a piece of crap. Megan just bought some new LG stuff and with their exrtended warranty if they make three calls you get a new appliance. We'd be on our third washer if ours was that make lol.

We almost always buy the extended warranty. These new machines have so many cheap plastic parts in them and with all the electronics and computers and motherboards in them, and the labor rate at $100 per hour..... only makes cents to us. New washing machines must have HE (high Effiency) soap, or they get suds up in the motherboard and that ruins it. (experience talking!!) Our 06 ford truck quit on the road 106 miles from a shop.... $2300 of parts & Labor plus an $850 tow bill we were on our way for an out of pocket cost of $100 (it was supposed to be refunded, but Ford never did!) This happened about 500 miles before warranty ran out. It never did run right after they fixed it.

Could be the tread mill is a generator supplying power to the buildings. Sometimes the only time a person has to exercise is when it is cold, dark and scary out side. Thus the need for a treadmill to facilitate better environmental conditions for the project. 8)

I like being outside too, I would rather call the dogs and go for a run through the hills but it doesn't always work that way. Also hubby refuses to run outside as there is no TV .. :p

It has really come in handy with Nikki, she uses it every other night as part of her rehab . It controls her speed and she has to use her left leg, not like when she is outside running around and still knows she is faster on 3 legs ..

NR my dryer is a Kenmore Elite ,HE3 and aside from the motherboard having a glitch the one time it works really well, but it is only the 2 of us and I am usually here by myself so it is not used like a lrg family would. I am still using my old Kenmore washing machine that was a wedding gift 16 years ago, I really want a new one but no matter how hard I try that bugger will not quit. The warranty even expired 10 years ago and it still works

Only thing I have extended warranty, well actually it is insurance, on is my cell phone. Cost about $200 to replace and I seem to wash one every so often. Cost $5 a month plus $50 for a claim. Just had a year old on replaced because I cracked a screen so essentially I bought a new phone for half price. Didn't need a new phone, just needed a screen replaced.

The only thing we ever came out ahead by buying an extended warranty was one car. Bought a 1995 Olds Aurora used; I loved that car but 95 was the first production year and lots of things broke. It shared a lot of parts with Cadillac and everything was hard to get to and expensive. It had a V-8 crammed in there sideways for front wheel drive. Warranty saved my bacon - and possibly my marriage.

But everything else where we have purchased a warranty or insurance, we lost money. So I have started turning them down again. I guess you just can't buy peace of mind.
