Was sitting around with friends on the weekend and we got to talking about the blood transfusions Vs religion debate..After some disscussion we came to the realization that most of us do not even know our own blood types...Maybe some of you nurses of ranchers can tell me ,how important is it to know our blood types? Also how many of you folks here at ranchers know your blood type or do you know your whole families.? Or Am I the only one here that doesnt know their own blood type?...

I think your blood type should be in your medical file. When I was young I didn't know untill it was taken before I got married. It is good to know your type, you never know when someone close to you is in need of blood. It could save valuable time.

O+ fer me. The main reason I know this is because when I was born, I was the third child, and if I'd been a boy they'd had to do a transfusion. (Least that's what mom said) She had the RH- Factor thing goin on.

Rh- is a fairly rare type of blood. When they have blood drives they are always happy to see someone with that type. Mom never could donate blood because she had Hepatitus as a child and they won't allow anyone that's had it to donate.

nonothing---yes, knowing your blood type is important but in case of emergency, most hospital stock plenty of O- (negative) blood, because people of POSITIVE types can receive NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE blood type, but NEGATIVE blood types can only receive NEGATIVE bloods!!! I am O+ and the hubby is A-......if you ever go to donate blood to the red cross, they will type it for you.....be sure to mark this somehow in your "emergency contact" info card that you should carry with you at all times in your wallet!! Hope this helps ya out, somewhat!! :D :D

If you have any military time you should know/have been told.

I'm O+ [as I understand it O+ is "universal"]

My xwife's father was sick and needed blood 1 or 2 times per month - - I gave blood 3 times in 2 months - - the Blood Bank had a fit when I went in to donate for the 4th time.

They tested me and my Blood Count was HI (I eat spinach salads)
They took my blood [forth time in 3 months]

The big 0 + knew this when I was getting married when they take your blood back in OK. My wife is the same. We give Blood when they come to town. Even got our types on a card.
