My 16 year grandson is in Europe on a people-to-people tour with a group of high school students.

Yesterday, they visited Omaha Beach where the invasion of Normandy took place in 1945.

To pay for his trip, he intends to gather up some beach sand from Omaha beach, put it into vials and sell it as momentos on E-bay. It will be on some pretty neat mounts and include an description of where the sand was collected.

He apparently has permission from the French Government and the US Customs service. He needs to raise $2000 for his part of the trip.

Those foreign trips are so worthwhile. It helps you make sense of all the history, geography, social studies and languages you have to study in school. When you watch the news it actually means something. I hope you get to go, too.
