Dogs gather bulls.

Water is deep, I didn't want to go for a swim with my pony so I sent the dogs north to get the bulls, Zeke and Trixie swam, young King couldn't quite build up the courage for the first go partially because the bulls were out of sight for the dogs, if he can see the cattle he gets more bold.

Zeke and Trixie found them and brought them east for a ways then started them south along the fence over the hill.

The zoom made them look close in the last photo.

Bringing a straggler that was hiding in the willows east to catch up with the rest.
PIC_7151.jpg

Taking them south across a shallow spot to get them about a 1/4 mile farther to a more narrow crossing to get to the side of the creek I was on.

Bulls going to the narrow crossing, I called them back cause they need a bit more work on long cross drives, I didn't want to keep having to call them off the front because they want to bring them to me in the worst way.
PIC_7159.jpg

Bulls close to the narrows and the dogs are eager to help. King didn't want to come in for the photo. He was building up his courage to cross this time.

Trixie taking the bulls east and south around the corner to the narrows. Zeke going up the side to make the turn to the south.

Zeke getting them turned south, Have to send him back so he will let them start to cross.

Starting.
PIC_7172.jpg

King a Zeke still wanting to bring the front end west directly to me, sent them back.

That's pretty cool. You could probably just give the orders and stay in the house watching TV or doing books. Neat...

Terrific, just terrific!! You have such a wonderful handle on your
dogs, especially since there are three of them!! Isn't it great
to have such good and willing partners????

Been around dogs my whole life and I must say that I'm certainly impressed!

If I wasn't so damned old, I'd sure like to have a dog that could do 1/10 of what those dogs can do. Fantastic.

Now that is pretty impressive! As a anti-dog guy (Mostly cause I havent ever been around many GOOD cow dogs), I may have to re-think my thinking. I can picture more than a few oak patches I'd like to send dogs through in the fall.

Majority voice some whistle. Just my own whistle. I should probably get a dog whistle of some variety because my own whistle in to the wind isn't heard very far.

I would welcome any thoughts from other handlers on dog whistle preference.

Thanks

I have had several good dogs but I have never had 3 good ones at a time.

Sometimes these 3 together are more than I can handle, King the youngest adds a bit too much energy to the mix and it gets a bit out of hand, but he does have a solid down at long range so I can stop him dead in his trcks when I need to. I am too the point where I don't want to get caught without a good dog so I figure if I keep 3 I should be okay.

Know what you mean there Dylan, Three years ago I lost two good young dogs in their prime, nothing left, training pups with an older dog sure makes life easier. Dang sure need to be a good older dog though.

Enjoyed your dogs working. I will try to get some pics next time we make a big move.

I lost a good 8 yr old dog with no up and comers then I found out how much help he really was, and I thought he was a lot of help to begin with.

How old is your pup that was in the truck?

Dylan , that pup was born the first of April, got two others left out of that litter.

If you look on my no-count dogs thread, that earless goat is the result of Poncho's antics..ophan goat tried to be a dog, it hasn't worked out too well for the goat. The pups show strong going to the lead already.

Gotta go do chores, you have a good day.
