Doing Chores...

Chores were pretty strenuous today. Looked out the front window - calves were fine. Stopped on the way to buy some cows and did the rest of our chores...
Found some cows.

a broader perspective of distance. It takes a good lens to check cows.

Actually, in all seriousness we do a close check and monitor body condition fairly carefully at least once a week. Once the snow gets too deep, or if it gets really cold for a long spell we will bring them home onto swath grazing. Currently these cows are gaining weight and it is a pretty low cost way to winter them.

Hay Feeder

Super great photos. This is becoming the most interesting winter that I can remeber. Our cows just do not eat the hay like they should. However we have not had any snow cover yet.
Just to let people know the difference here. I drive 3 miles to feed only 30 cows on that road there a five different cattle herds on the way to feed them. Ya all owned by five different people. The farms are broke up so bad here everyone is fighting for every rentable acre.
One guy drives 10 miles one direction just to feed 10 head. Now we a dealing with horse pasture renters also.
