Don't Try This at Home

A couple of local guys were working to get the neighbors bull out of their pasture.

They roped the bull and were trying to drag him into a trailer. One guy was on a horse with the rope through the trailer and the other was behind the bull giving him an incentive to get into the trailer.

The bull wouldn't go - guess he was a fair sized one. Anyway, the horse pulling on the bull got tired and fell. The rider was drug under him and the bull got plumb away. The rider was severely injured and was in critical condition for some time with a whole bunch of broken ribs and other internal injuries. They kept him alive with a respirator. He is now able to talk and gave the above version of what happened.

I don't know what kind of insurance they had, if any. If none, I imagine they will lose everything under the weight of the hospital bills.

I guess I would have gotten the oldest and ugliest pickup and chased the bull where ever I wanted him to go.

That was a terrible accident. My heart goes out to the fellow and his family. Things change in the blink of an eye.

However, I have seen bulls loaded this way a lot, and no one ever got hurt. I wonder why the horse fell? That part is really odd to me. Something not right here, IMO. Of course, it was an accident so anything is possible, I guess...but I've never seen a horse come close to falling in that situation.

I've never seen it done with one horse and rope, always two fellas, two ropes, and two horses. Sometimes there is a third person to help persuade the bull (or cow) into the trailer sometimes not.
Too much room for the bull to swing around with only one rider IMO.

Prayers that the fella makes a full recovery tho.

Hope the guy recovers okay. His horse probably went down because his breast collar wasn't in the right place for doing a job like this and it came up and cut off his horses air supply, that or the saddle was pinching the horses withers. Maybe the horse was too small and just quit on him. Need a big strong horse when doing this, something that can "pull a barn down" right now and not 10 minutes from now. The longer you monkey around in a situation like this the more likely you, your horse, or the bull will get hurt. Been there and done that ......alot.

I've seen it done AFTER the bull was shot with a 'mickey' dart and a bit dopey!!!

That's bad business    ....but ranching/farming is dangerous doings for sure!!!

Maybe he'll bounce back good as new!

We load alot of cattle this way, since we catch for other peaple, and off the roadway. The biggest thing is getting your cattle into good postion in the trailer gate before really pulling on them alot. as you tear up cattle, horses, peaple, with too much rope and acritter swinging around the back of the trailer..I tie on in the pasture, but NEVER when loading.
