One thought I have on gun control is, why don't those that don't have guns simply identify themselves? That's all it would take. Put up a sign in front of your house: This residence is unarmed. Even a public list of all of the non gunowners in an area would suffice. The potential perps would know the residences that could be robbed, or rape commited within, where there would be little resistance or danger and ,therefore, lives could be protected and gun violence could be reduced all the way around. Now, are there any gun control advocates on here that will take the initiative to identify their property and person as being firearm free?

I am not for gun control but it is well known in this community that I don't keep hand guns or rifles I do have one old shotgun but not sure were it's at. I recently had to borrow a rifle to kill a few dogs.(223 I believe) however I have never been raped, robbed or had anythig stolen, at least I have'nt missed anything. and I make it real easy for them, cattle guards instead of locked gates, door on shop unlocked and proped open, keys in all vehicles. so maybe there's more to it other than being locked in your home cluching your weapons, (this being safe thingy)

I am sure one persons personaly experiance in not being robbed is enough data to form a pattern to fit the other 300 million of us.

During the 1990s, just as Britain and Australia were more severely regulating guns, the U.S. was greatly liberalizing individuals' abilities to carry firearms. Thirty seven of the fifty states now have so-called right-to-carry laws that let law-abiding adults carry concealed handguns after passing a criminal background check and paying a fee. Only half the states require some training, usually around three to five hours. Yet crime has fallen even faster in these states than the national average. Overall, the states in the U.S. that have experienced the fastest growth rates in gun ownership during the 1990s have experienced the biggest drops in murders and other violent crimes

Well then educate us and you guys talk about your issues amongst each other, I am sure we will be interested to read them! Do the Canadians on here have enough interest amongst each other to talk about their own country? Or do you guys all agree with each other?

I would be very interested in hearing you all talk about your Liberal vs Conservative Party, about gun control or about you connections with France. About why you chose to trade with Cuba or how the growing population of Muslims in your Country is affecting things. How about your economy or your socialistic health care? Are you happy with your health care? How about Taxes surely you guys have some discussion in you about how pleased you are with your tax rate?

This site is not U.S. exclusive you guys are more than welcome to discuss your problems amongst each other! Maybe some of us Americans will even join in. I would think you have more interest in your own Country than the USA?

I would agree with you, Mrs.Greg. Probably a little (or a LOT) of both. But the "don't care enough" part is certainly true. Not sure if it's because of an imperial attitude that we have or an apathetic attitude that we have, but I think you're right.

Now...since nobody really cares, if we can stop talking about Canada and get on with something more important.

Frankk, I am so glad to find out that you haven't been raped  . However, the area that you live probably has alot to do with your charmed life. Last year our combiners told us first hand of a couple that was murdered that pretty much fit your lifestyle description, and like you were at the mercy of an intruder. My wife was certified this Fall as a firearms instructor, and our son is really into hunting and firearms, and recently has taken an interest in archery since we bought him a hunting bow and accessories for Christmas. I guarantee you that we're not locked in our home clutching our weapons, but with all of the drug traffic and problems that accompany in our area we all feel good knowing that we are anything but sitting ducks. I would say that approximately, at least once a year there is some type of problem in our immediate area or near our home (like right outside) that we would not feel comfortable being unarmed; last time it was someone that was drugged up walked into the yard early in the morning, time before that one was pounding on the house in the middle of the night, time before that the cops showed up at our house late at night because they'd pulled a car over just down the road from us and one of the occupants was wanted, I believe, and fled on foot. Just need a yappy dog to let you know if someones around and the means to do something about it.

Well Cal you implied that if someone had no guns they would be afraid to let it be known. I don't and I'am not afraid.
In this charmed life, on the homeplace my neighbor to the east spent time in prison for murder, my neighbor to the south has four houses he rents for around one hunderd dollars a month. On the other place the neighbor to north just was released from prison on drug charges, on the south side (with a cattle guard) the neighbor also has done time on drug charges. His brother killed thier bother in law in a gun and knife fight and was later found dead down by the river. This is a pretty rough area also. I know all these people and visit with them at every opportunity, some of those folks in the cheap houses are interesting people. My son in law is a policeman training officer, expert with firearms and expert hunter and is training his sons in the art of hunting. My son also bought his son and daughter hunting bows and accessories for Christmas. He also is an expert hunter. See we have a few things in common I'm just not afraid. Hey I have a great pyrnees dog. She don't bark much though. I won't have it.

Now frank... We all know Great Pyrs bark at a semi that is driving in the next county over because they know you need to know about it.

Most times people come by here and see the three Guardian dogs running around and don't look twice... Something about a 120 pound cannine coming towards you baying at them tends to keep folks in the car... If they only knew that my dogs are just big wusses

You can train them ole dogs, mine sure dosen't bark much. They are intimadating looking dogs alright but mine is not allowed to come up to the house she has to stay with the goats besides I couldn't take all that hair flying around in the summer.

I have a wife of thirty eight years and together we raised two children they can take care of themselves now. However that crazy woman of mine has took to locking the doors at night, just in the last six months or so, I almost run through the door in the mornings. Now she may be having second thoughts on my ability to protect her, can't remember why she said she started doing that, I pretty much let her do what she wants to.
