Yes. People suprise us all the time. It's government interference that
causes catastrophe. Let the American people work things out. They always have--we are survivors--if the government would leave us and the markets alone.

Heck I hope it goes back to 14,000....but only if we do not have to compromise our free market system.

Yeah, me too. Another week of days like today and I can break even.

Yep, I'm now only down 0.9% since 2002 when I started investing. But I was down 35.6% in 2008. Breaking even would be a good outcome.[/quote]

No way reader....funds are up but not that much.

How did you make such dramatic gains in a market that was plunging?

Up 148 points this morning. I expect people will at some point sell and the upward trend will stop. I thought yesterday might be the last sharp increase so this is a pleasant surprise.

And more good news as well this morning.

Yes it was up in the morning by 150 but then it was down by over 50 that is a 200 point mid day swing then it came back and finished up by 90, another 140 point swing . So what does that say for the confidence in the market. :?

You sure this is not a common occurrence Tam

Are you saying it is? :?

Never mind Reader I just heard what caused the drop. Geithner said something that made the market drop by 200 points and then he took his comment back. So I guess this might be something that will become a common occurrence.

Dow closes over 8000 today!! The Obama bull market continues!!!

What has Obama did that would cause a rally? Or does he just get credit for it in your mind because he is President?

One reason for the rally is the fact that you cannot invest in any thing such as CD's, Money Market and make anything. Money Market in the range of .72%. Now that means for a year you would make $720 on 100K. I think people have realized this and are taking a chance on some good companies that are trading pretty cheap now. Ford would have doubled your money in about a week, this is only one that I have followed, I am sure there are others. Any way you can make it big if your guess is right are lose big if it is wrong.

Dow Sets Best Four-Week Run Since 1933

Friday, April 3, 2009 4:19 PM

NEW YORK -- U.S. stocks rose Friday, with the Dow marking its best four-week winning streak since 1933, lifted by robust results from Research in Motion and comments by Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, who said the central bank will do everything it can to stabilize banks.

Growing conviction that the worst is over for the economy helped Wall Street shrug off dour jobs data showing the highest unemployment rate since 1983.

I seem to remember that economists saying they figured the economy would recover without Obama's stimulus package. So since the "worst is over" I guess they were right. So tell us since very little if any of the Obama/Dem knee jerk pay back their supporters spending has actually hit the economy do you think he will pull some it back or will he keep spending until the country is completely bankrupt Oldtimer?

So did the Bush bailout help or not?

Research in Motion, is that the Blackberry company based in Canada?

Was this really a depression, like Obama told us? Or just a recession that was used as an excuse to pass a record deficit budget, with the economic impact yet to come?

Every day it went down he got all of the blame. I just like rubbing it in to all the ones that loved the doom and gloom every day.
