Drone Carnage, Children Slaughtered: The Moral Question Obam

A moral question

It doubtlessly is a damning report that the researchers of the American universities have delivered on America’s drone adventurism. It succinctly brings out what a horrendous toll it has been exacting on innocent civilian lives and keeping the whole lot of populace in the targeted areas in constant dread of drones and their fatal assaults. The psychological impact on the people is just terrible, it underlines. But will this report have any impact on the American strategists at all? Not even an outside chance.

Over these times, the civil society worldwide is up in protest against this American adventurism. It wants it to be stopped as this leads up inevitably to the killing of the civilians indefensibly. For this brutal collateral damage, even the UN human rights community is raising its voice increasingly loudly against the use of drone attacks by the American warlords to take out targets they deem a threat to American lives and assets.

The main plea of the dissenting voices is that the drones may be killing the terrorists, but no lesser are they mowing down the innocent civilians who have nothing to do with terrorism. There indeed are very many voices that do not condone even the killing of terrorists in drone attacks, equating it with extrajudicial murder. They argue that no law, national or international, provides for the killing of a criminal or a suspect. Instead, every effort must be made to arrest them and bring them to justice in a court of law.

Nonetheless, all these pleas have fallen on deaf ears in Washington, so far. The decision makers over there remain unimpressed by the factual reality that these drone assaults are in fact proving counterproductive and creating more recruits for terrorism and extremism. Even as this drone adventurism is palpably giving tremendous fillip to anti-Americanism worldwide, the American warlords yet stay unswayed. They are keeping up with it. Indeed, since the advent of Barack Obama’s presidency, they have further intensified it, raising a moral question that they must answer.

On what ground can they justify the killing of an innocent civilian even as collateral damage? The 9/11 holocaust was horrible, precisely because those slaughtered were no combatants but innocent civilians. And so has to be the killing of the civilians in the drone strikes. Indeed, with what peace of mind can President Obama sleep when even children get slaughtered in the drone assaults that he now personally approves? Appallingly enough, as part of his drone adventurism he has decreed that everyone within the vicinity of the targeted object be deemed a combatant, even if civilian, and liable to be decimated.

The extent of his adventurism’s viciousness can easily be visualised from the destructive range of the Hellfire missile fired by drones. It not only destroys the struck target. It annihilates the compounds and assets in the close vicinity and kills the human beings in and around. Doesn’t Obama’s conscience gets pricked when the Hellfire missile takes in its killer sweep a child playing with toys in his home or a mother feeding her baby in her compound? What sin have they committed to meet such a tragic demise? Or does he and his war commanders think that the child, the mother and the baby should perish as they are no Americans and their lives are not even worth a dime?

Here there is certainly a moral question that is becoming increasingly compelling with the day and the American warlords can no longer evade answering it. So prompt they have always been in raising the issue of extrajudicial killings elsewhere in the world. And that promptness they have now to show in their own case. Of course, one could have no sympathy or compassion for those who kill and maim the fellow human beings in suicide bombings and terrorist blasts. But the murder of those having nothing to do with terrorism in the US drone attacks cannot be acceptable either and on no pretext could it be condoned or justified.

Obama admin blasted for “triumph of propaganda” on drone strikes

by Joel McDurmon on Sep 29, 2012

The Atlantic blasts the Obama admin:

The Obama Administration deliberately uses the word “surgical” to describe its drone strikes. Official White House spokesman Jay Carney marshaled the medical metaphor here, saying that “a hallmark of our counterterrorism efforts has been our ability to be exceptionally precise, exceptionally surgical and exceptionally targeted.” . . .

They’ve successfully transplanted the term into public discourse about drones.

I’ve been told American drone strikes are “surgical” while attending Aspen Ideas Festival panels, interviewing delegates at the Democratic National Convention, and perusing reader emails after every time I write about the innocents killed and maimed in Pakistan, Yemen, and elsewhere.

It is a triumph of propaganda. . . .

Said George Orwell in 1946:

In our time, political speech and writing are largely the defense of the indefensible. [. . .] Thus political language has to consist largely of euphemism, question-begging and sheer cloudy vagueness. Defenseless villages are bombarded from the air, the inhabitants driven out into the countryside, the cattle machine-gunned, the huts set on fire with incendiary bullets: this is called pacification. Millions of peasants are robbed of their farms and sent trudging along the roads with no more than they can carry: this is called transfer of population or rectification of frontiers. People are imprisoned for years without trial, or shot in the back of the neck or sent to die of scurvy in Arctic lumber camps: this is called elimination of unreliable elements. Such phraseology is needed if one wants to name things without calling up mental pictures of them.

The phrase “surgical drone strike” is handy for naming U.S. actions without calling up images of dead, limb-torn innocents with flesh scorched from the missile that destroyed the home where they slept or burned up the car in which they rode. . . . Using data that undercounts innocents killed, The New America Foundation reports that 85 percent of Pakistanis killed in drone strikes are “militants,” while 15 percent are civilians or unknown. What do you think would happen to a surgeon that accidentally killed 15 in 100 patients? Would colleagues would call him “surgical” in his precision?

Unlike the Democratic politicians and former Obama Administration officials I heard speak in Aspen, retired Brigadier General Craig Nixon didn’t say that American drone strikes were surgical.

He was asked to explain how a farmer was accidentally killed.

And he used a different metaphor when recounting his field experience:

A drone or another intelligence device is sorta like being at a football game sitting on the 50-yard line and looking through a soda straw. I mean you see what you see. But there’s a lot of other context that you don’t see.

His fingerprints are all over the Libyan ambassadors murder, the 50 odd green on blue attacks, and let us not mention the Mexican nationals killed by fast and furious guns, oh heaven forbid----

Any soul who hangs with some wanna be terrorist ought to be looking over his shoulder and thinking "is this the safest place in the whole middle east for me to be part of this posse?"

The New America Foundation reports that 85 percent of Pakistanis killed in drone strikes are “militants,” while 15 percent are civilians or unknown.

maybe Pakistanis must require all terrorists to wear warning labels..

Warming: standing sitting or sleeping near a terrorist may lead to severe bodily injury and death..

if they don't adopt the new warning labels.. should send over a hundred trial lawyers for each drone strike so the they can represent the families and sue the Jihadis.

SO MR NOBEL PEACE PRIZE is now known as a recruiting tool for the terrorists. HOW FITTING when you give a guy an award before he steps foot in the Oval office and proves who he actually is. MR WARLORD OF THE DRONE ATTACKS.

I still say if the WARLORD IN CHIEF would tone down the drones and take a few of these TARGETS into custody and waterboard them until they sing like a canary maybe there would be a few less events for his Administration to find creative ways to lie about so they don't have to admit they are TERRORIST ATTACKS CARRIED OUT BY AL QUEADA. The very group that Obama keeps claiming he has all but destroyed by killing OSAMA.

How can you Dems, hiding behind the curtain of shame just stand by and say nothing when you know if this was BUSH you would be rioting in the streets and calling for him to be charged with War Crimes and tossed in Gitmo for the rest of his natural born life. You are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites if you support Obama who told everyone he was going to HEAL US FOREIGN RELATIONSHIPS and then turns around and drone attacks innocent CHILDREN to the point of being called a TERRORIST RECUITING TOOL HIMSELF.

Now it makes even less sense for Michelle Obama to take over the school lunch program for "security reasons". Don't they need fat kids that are good at video games to run these drones?

Thats right Traveler 8) .Sometimes it is necesary for leaders to declare all people ,young and old of all genders, combattants. The English did in WWII against the Germans. The Americans bombed military targets in the daytime and the English bombed everything else after dark.I believe Truman declared all Japenese combatants before he dropped the nukes.War is a hard thing. Not for the squimish.Especialy if you want to win.

Our own rules of engagement are not allowing us to win.

A few more raids like the SEALS performed against OBL, and a few less up close and personal drone strikes, along with enhanced interrogation and the judicious use of the porcine element would go a long way toward the desired effect. Dear Leader is not a leader.

Time to face the facts Obama's foreign affairs policies are failing horribly. AL Queada is not dead and they now have a strong foot hold in countries that are being ruled by the Muslim Brotherhood thanks to Obama backed Arab Spring. . Killing their hero Osama, when he could have been taken alive and put on trial for his war crimes would have seen justice done in the open where everyone could witness the evidence and the results to his horrible deeds, has only added to the Muslim HATE. And continually spiking the ball over his death has just pissed the Muslim nations off enough that they are turning their guns on US soldiers in record amounts.

HIS POLICIES lead to the Ambassador's death and that blood should be impossible to wash off. He felt just because he lived in Indonesia at 6 years old the Muslims would love him and take a different friendly attitude towards a country they have spend hundreds of years HATING. He is so incompetent in reading HIS IMPORTANCE in the grand scheme of things he is a danger to himself and everyone around him.

Obama's KILL LIST should be seen as a reason for investigation on the bases of WAR CRIMES. IF that KILL LIST is taking out untold amounts of innocent women and children then citizens in those countries have just as much right to hate the US as the US has to hate the terrorists that took down the twin towers. War is a dirty business but drone attacking a target when you don't know how many innocents are in that target is WRONG if you can go in and take out the target without killing everyone in the near vicinity. You can not get Intel from DEAD TARGETS and that is all Obama has DEAD TARGETS AND NO INTEL TO STOP THE NEXT ATTACK LIKE IN LIBYA.

I hope obama and other presidents use more drones, missiles, nukes, etc. It bothers me none.

I would have no problem with them using drones on TRAIN CAMPS that are hid away in the mountains. But it is quite another to be using them in areas where innocent children are being slaughtered.

Who is the Commander and Chief that has a KILL LIST that ORDERS THE DRONE ATTACKS that the poor military men and women have to carry out or face court marshall? :x It is the chickenass civilian sitting in the Oval Office or on a posh golf cource somewhere that is ORDERING these attacks, or are you too stupid to realize that. The MILITARY MEN AND WOMEN DO NOT SET THE TARGETS, THEY ONLY CARRY OUT THEIR ORDERS. BTW he is the same chicken ass civilain that ordered service men can't have live ammo in their guns while on base in terrorist ridden countries. The same chicken ass civilain that appointed Hillary Clinton to the Departmant of State who was suppose to be in charge of providing security for the friggin Ambassador that was killed but I guess the money was better spent guarding Valerie Jarrett while she was sunbathing at Martha's Vineyard.

Oh and the same chicken ass civilain that told the military man and women that they can not get a bit rough or drop a little water on the heads of the guys, that would chop their heads off and drag them through the streets if the had a chance, to get some intel that might just stop the next terrorist attack. Him and his gang of chicken ass civilain CRAZ's is the them I'm talking about. Not those forced by military law to carry out the WARLORD AND CHIEF'S ORDERS

Several drones are operated by the CIA:

The Bureau Of Investigative Journalism:

The near constant presence of CIA drones ‘terrorises’ much of the civilian population of Pakistan’s tribal areas according to a new report.

Men, women and children are subjected to almost constant trauma – including fear of attack, severe anxiety, powerlessness, insomnia and high levels of stress – says a nine month investigation into CIA drone strikes in Pakistan by two top US university law schools. More than 130 ‘victims, witnesses and experts’ were interviewed in Pakistan for the study.
