Dumb but lucky cows.

It was weaning week at our place. Everyone behaved very well until last night, when the cows decided the electric fence just wasn't enough to stop them, and all decided to make an end run around the yard and get to the calves from the other direction. Then they all stopped in the hay yard for a party, and forgot all about the calves.   It was almost dark, and lucky for us, our neighbour drove by and saw them. We just got them back in the fence before it was too dark to see.

Anyway, four of them eluded us, I guess they were hiding somewhere, so this afternoon I went out to put them back in too. They went around the back of the stacks, and I went to get them, and for some reason looked down the very very very narrow space between two long stacks of round straw bales. Well, who was standing there wedged between the stacks about half way down was not one, but two cows!   I'm so glad I looked down between those stacks! Of course, Hubby is off at the auction mart, so I get the honour of bailing them out.

I had to move 75 bales to get to those two cows, and then they just backed out, calmly walked off, and never even said thank you! :?

Isn't that something how that gut intuition works, it has saved my butt many times.
I am glad you got them out all safe, even though it must have been a real PITA to move all of the hay. I had two rogues have a party in my very precious, expensive, small hay stack the other day ,long story , but they got out because of an open gate, so who can blame them.

C'mon - you're an old crunchy on the outside, cream puff on the inside kind of guy - you know you really did not mind doing it.

That "mad" emoticon does not fool anyone.

Reminds me of the guy in ND that found a calf alive stuck in the bales that had been there for a couple months. Sounded like a hoax to me but the guy swears he survived that long. :?

Ahhh, Kato, you are not alone in having escapees! Even the Brits seem to lose a few every now and then . . . .

Kind of an interesting site to visit for a view into the British ways..

Just had 2 heifers get stuck in some bales yesterday too! They were only there for 2 days, cause that's all the longer they were in meadow next to the baleyard...how they got there have no idea..tore the heck out of the fence and bales though...out of 250 heifers I'm surprised that more were'n't stuck!

Good pictures! My camera batteries were dead, so I couldn't take any. It looks like yours went around corners and everything. Mine were between two long stacks, so they were in a straight line. Trouble was the stacks were three bales high, so to move the length of one bale, I had to take down six.

I left them for Hubby to put back together.

Those helpers look like they're enjoying themselves sitting up there! :D :D
