Netherlands has 2nd human 'mad cow'
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, June 22 (UPI) -- Medical experts report a second case of the human variation of mad cow disease in the Netherlands.
The brain-wasting ailment, known officially as Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, or vCJD, has been detected in a Dutch man, the National Institute for Public Health said.
The patient is believed to have eaten meat from the same infected batch of beef as the Utrecht woman who died of the disease last year, Expatica reported.
A person with vCJD usually dies within 18 months, doctors said.
