Ebola case in the Big Apple

A doctor in New York City who recently returned from treating Ebola patients in Guinea tested positive for the Ebola virus Thursday, becoming the city’s first diagnosed case.

The doctor, Craig Spencer, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital on Thursday and placed in isolation while health care workers spread out across the city to trace anyone he might have come into contact with in recent days. A further test will be conducted by the federal Centers for Disease Control to confirm the initial test.

While officials have said they expected isolated cases of the disease to arrive in New York eventually, and had been preparing for this moment for months, the first case highlighted the challenges surrounding containment of the virus, especially in a crowded metropolis.

Even as the authorities worked to confirm that Mr. Spencer was infected with Ebola, it emerged that he traveled from Manhattan to Brooklyn on the subway on Wednesday night, when he went to a bowling alley and then took a taxi home.

WTF wasn't this man quarantined?

Because he went bowling. Supposedly in African medicinal lore, swinging a 16 pound ball with one hand is a cure for Ebola.

You know, like having sex with a virgin will cure aids?

No really. Buckwheat just hired a new Ebola Czar and he needs to justify his paycheck. It's ok. Only a handful of people will die.

Wow, who could have predicted the possibility of such a thing?

True government leadership in action.

You wish it was a fire. At least that would mean you might be able to salvage something. You're now whizzing on the ashes of a once great country.

remember when..."Leftists" assured us it was a 3rd world disease that would never get to our shores, because "we take neccessary precautions"

They knew everything about the disease...what protective gear to wear etc.

why do Conservatives hate science so much, and breathe through their mouths?

He had begun to feel the effects on Tuesday. A day before he took the subway. He was "self monitoring". 103 fever on Thursday.

Where does his commode flush too? I don't give a rats about his apartment that they are sanitizing. I want to know where his sewage goes.

This guy is obviously a democrat. He does not understand logic or rational thinking.

If the US government is going to allow American citizens to live and work in ebola-ravaged countries, or allow visitors to America from those same countries, then why can't there be a protocol:

If you've traveled to X, Y, or Z country or if you are a citizen of same, when entering the United States you will be quarantined at ABC facility for a period of at least 21 days until it has been established that you are ebola-free.

Period.

And no sewage from their clothes washing, toilet, bath tub, or sink's tooth brush effluents are released to treatment facilities.

American lives are being put at risk and DC doesn't seem to care. Heck, they are putting our armed forces at risk.

That will never happen. It makes too much sense. And it wouldn't
cost enough to implement.

He rode the subway, and now has three close friends quarantined.

I wonder if sewer rats can catch Eboma and be carriers.
