Additionally, the hospital must spend $80 million over the next five years to put in place electronic health care records to comply with a federal mandate. UMC will get most of the money back from the government if the system is implemented by 2016, Keeton said. He hopes to have it in place this summer.

All medical records of US residents are supposed to be online by 2013.

They don't have until 2016. Then your medical records can be outsourced to Asian jobs , in fact, India has been gearing up for it.

Isn't that cute.... all your financial info and medical in the hands of a foreigner......... talk about identity theft as I am sure that will be on the rise.....

Hospitals are already using foreign hospitals and Doctors for consulting- and in doing so sending medical records to those hospitals...They have been for years...

In many of the smaller hospitals that can't man a 24 hour shift of specialists in all fields- they have used a program called "Nighthawks" where catscans, ultrasounds, X-Rays, specialist inquiries are sent to a major hospital and their on duty specialists read/interpret the info and give their opinions on diagnosis and treatment recommendations back to the local Doctor/Hospital staff within a few minutes...

Because of the difference in time zones (day/night)- hospitals in Australia have been used regularly...

If its me I'd prefer getting a professional opinion and diagnosis on a severe matter in a few minutes rather than waiting til Monday during regular working hours when the local specialist is available... :roll:

Sometimes the best specialist on a certain issue are not readily available in the US....To me it seems great that they have the capability to get second opinions from the tops in the world..

Where did you get that idea... These are the specialists that are on duty at some of the top hospitals around the world... The reason Australia is popular is because when its night here and the local specialists are gone- its daytime down under- and all these specialists are readily available...

Bill ORielly was talking about the health records database one day and he was not happy at all. He felt if was not smart to have all that info on one website that could be hacked and info sold.

I think that a patient should have the right to opt out of having their medical files on the nation wide datatbase just for that reason.

Where did you get that idea... These are the specialists that are on duty at some of the top hospitals around the world... The reason Australia is popular is because when its night here and the local specialists are gone- its daytime down under- and all these specialists are readily available...

well a friend's job is to take the translated reports, and retype them so they are understandable.. most pass through India for some odd reason...
