this is the damage to a bag of barley after the elk get at it chased them off the other night counted about 60 proably wasted a1000 bu the cows will not eat it after they poop and pee all over what they dont eat. You cant keep them out once they get started had propane cannons working didnt bother. we are in the process of moving it to bins at home now some are empty

What a mess. I always wondered if animals bother them. We don't have elf in this country just whitetails and a hand full of muleys have never heard of them botheringgrain bags just hay stacks. Can you salvage any of the grain they got into.

a lot of 8 to 10 foot stack yard fences here , even for the guys that bag hay.... they hate fox as they run down the silage sacks and poke holes with thier feet and rip holes if there a mouse

My high school wrestling coach told me how the old boy he worked for in high school took care of deer. They used a home made cannon, filled full of ever thing they could find from nails to bolts and nuts and bearings. They waited until after dark when all the deer had come in on the hay and touched it off. They scattered a lot of junk but they didn't have to worry about dear coming back for awhile. He said it took quite awhile to cleanup the mess. Maybe you aren't loading that cannon with the right stuff.

Bar M no after the elk foul it up we just leave what is there for them the cows wont eat it and the grain elevators condem the whole load if they find a elk or deer turd.

The one thing that will get you madder than elk tearing in to them is.......
Snowmobilers tearing them up.

Yuck! They are destructive darn things. Our wonderful Game and Fish has finally decided to recognize we are overrun with elk in the area, and allow more hunting. Their herd objective is 1500 head, but last fall thought we had over 4000 . Really good management, I suppose that just happened overnight?! I think ranchers should be able to charge grazing to the public's wildlife. Just think how many more cows people could run in the area if they weren't running 4000 head of flipping' elk.

That's the way it is here with white tail deer and wild turkeys.

Once the population is out of hand, they give out more tags,
but not enough to bring them back into control.

I thought everyone calls vittera viagra, they do around here.

I don't know about Viagra but I think there has been some success in keeping wildlife out of feed with 3-D electric fence. Up North of here they managed to keep both elk and deer out of stack-yards they were habituated in for years. Pastures and fields are one thing but we should be able to afford a fence around a feed pile. Sorry for your loss.

If i were you i would contact the local game warden tell him he has 24 hrs to get the elk off of you or you are going to make a real mess of them and if he calls your bluff then start letting lead fly. Here in Utah this is what i did a couple years ago on some deer the only thing was is i had to leave them in the field and the fish and game came out and pick up the carcasses. Had a fence around my hay barn the next day and was paid for damages. Any way sorry about the barley hate to see hard work get wasted like that.
