Dear Friend,

If you’re like most Americans, there’s nothing more important to you about health care than peace of mind.

Given the status quo, that’s understandable. The current system often denies insurance due to pre-existing conditions, charges steep out-of-pocket fees – and sometimes isn’t there at all if you become seriously ill.

It’s time to fix our unsustainable insurance system and create a new foundation for health care security. That means guaranteeing your health care security and stability with eight basic consumer protections:

No discrimination for pre-existing conditions

No exorbitant out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles or co-pays

No cost-sharing for preventive care

No dropping of coverage if you become seriously ill

No gender discrimination

No annual or lifetime caps on coverage

Extended coverage for young adults

Guaranteed insurance renewal so long as premiums are paid

Learn more about these consumer protections at Whitehouse.gov.

Over the next month there is going to be an avalanche of misinformation and scare tactics from those seeking to perpetuate the status quo. But we know the cost of doing nothing is too high. Health care costs will double over the next decade, millions more will become uninsured, and state and local governments will go bankrupt.

It’s time to act and reform health insurance, drive down costs and guarantee the health care security and stability of every American family. You can help by putting these core principles of reform in the hands of your friends, your family, and the rest of your social network.

Thank you, Barack Obama

the list sounds good in theory...lets hope they don't screw it up!

It does sound good in theory, doesn't it? But it seems as tho everything that sounds good in theory comes with a copious amount of fine print...and it's the fine print that worries the honk outta me!

No gender discrimination

??

why is that in the middle of a health care list..

why must every argument~debate be muddled with distractions?

if that is part of the health care list. then solve it now... put up a bill .. that says ... ALL are created equal..and we the government will protect that self evident right. and any one who can prove discrimination for any reason can sue te pants off the person or entity who is discriminating..

I'm really a bit tired of the mileage that some politicians have taken on the discrimination issue..

No exorbitant out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles or co-pays

lets see, my "free" for life health care insurance from the military
cost me about 300 a year for the deductible, not bad for "free"

that comes after a 20% deductible is recouped.. again not bad for free ..

then after we reach a $3000 Catastrophic cap after $300 deductible and and 20% cost share is met, then it covers everything for free.. after it determines it's cost for the procedure and then pays that portion of the doctor bill.. leaving the non-covered part for you to pay.

not to mention if I retire I still have to pay about $100 a month for medicare and then still meet the deductible and cost share.. and cap,..

so effectively my free for life health insurance could cost me about $6000 out of pocket a year,... is that a bit exorbitant for my "free" medical for life?

yep I want the government in charge of making sure costs aren't exorbitant

BTW I'm not complaining.. it is good coverage.. just not as free as many think..

oops forgot about prescriptions,. they're extra.
