An Emergency Vote For Another Bailout
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has called members back to Washington for an "emergency vote" of Congress tomorrow. You remember when she refused to let us return to session while gas prices were breaking family budgets, so you might wonder what is so important this time. Answer: Another $26 billion bailout. These tax dollars - your tax dollars - will help pay salaries for city employees in San Francisco (Pelosi's district) where 1 in 3 earn $100,000 or more. They'll be used to pay for non-deductible prescription drug plans in New Jersey and to buy iPods for every student in a Florida school district.
While Montana's Priorities Are Ignored
History will remember this as the "Bailout Congress." Even after $700 billion for the Temporary Asset Relief Program (TARP), $145 billion for Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, $29 billion for Bear Stearns and $60 billion more for AIG, the economy suffered and unemployment rose. And now, Congress is poised to double-down on the biggest bailout of all - the rescue of Big Government with a massive $1.138 trillion (with interest) ‘so-called’ stimulus. All the stimulus funded was the expansion of big government and the rescue of states like California that were facing massive budget shortfalls. Meanwhile, Montana has been responsible, reduced spending and avoided a deficit.
Enough is enough. The era of the bailout has failed and it's time for a real economic stimulus that empowers consumers and small businesses.
