End of UK beef ban

THE ban on British beef exports will be lifted this week — TEN YEARS after it was imposed during the BSE crisis.

Meat exports will be allowed from Wednesday, with shipping of live cattle to follow.

Beef sold on the bone will remain subject to restrictions.

EU officials agreed to lift the ban after BSE in cattle plummeted. Meat industry chiefs warned it would be a “slow process” to get exports back to their 1995 level of £600million a year.
