I betcha Oldtimer trained them...specifically for keeping the crazy Canadians out

Not a bad idea there Mrs. Greg-- but we haven't run out of Californians to feed them yet... Altho those veggie eating greenies don't give them much protein...

Don't know of any town in Montana named Massena- but both Eureka and Ekalaka are known as being past the " ends of the earth ".....
They are 800 miles apart- and complete opposites on about everything- topography, weather, people, politics.....About as opposite as you can get...

Great pictures of the bear patroll! useless information: Messina is the first town on the South African side of the Limpopo river crossing from Zimbabwe, different spelling, but I often wonder if there are connections in the naming of towns with the same or similar names in different countries.

Many of the towns along the Montana Hiline are named after places around the world...When Great Northern railroad built the rail line the towns grew up around the sidings....Glasgow was siding 45 until the bigshots of GN got together and began picking names off the map-- two differing stories- one is they just picked names off the map they liked- other is they spun a globe and whatever town/area it stopped under where they stuck their finger is what they named it...But we have Glasgow, Malta, Havre (le Havre), Zurich, Galata, Kremlin, Nashua, Devon, Dunkirk, Tampico, etc., etc.

OT, you can't use trained Grizzly bears to keep the canucks out, we are used to them here :) I would try that cowboy in the green speedo from the trident gum commercial, I know for a fact if I saw him coming, I would run!!!!!! and keep on running. Nothing like a man in a speedo and cowboy boots / hat to make a woman run for the hills.

WE have a Tampico near here... Reagans Birthplace, not 20 miles from here via road I bet, The old fella that used to own this place went to school with him one year (Fellow was a a very bright young guy who went from school house to school house every year to learn more from a different teacher, or so his daughters told us...

Most of our towns around here are either named after some sort of deposit (Coal City, Coal Valley, Mineral) or some other geographic feature... Well, that and Native American tribes and old European Explorers.. Gotta love the french Explorer names with a thick Chicago accent.. Lovely..

Now, you get around Chicago and everything is something grove, something park or something else that sounds all pretty... I can tell you there are no Elk in Elk Grove Village and the Brook in Oak Brook isn't nearly as pretty as one might think, lol.
