Low in the US population, but in the UK, the possibility of mating two Hetero animals would have produced a higher percentage of Homozygous animals (animals exhibting physical evidence), and thus their higher proliferation rate. More research needs to be done, on both the bovine and human side.

A simple DNA test now, will be able to determine the polymorphism, next question would be, if enviornmental factors may have an impact on these genetic mutations.
