More recent than that yarn was the blacks being banned from Pro Baseball and such. This was not a case of the blacks only being banned in the south. It was everywhere in the U.S.
Satchel Page (spelling?) may have been the best baseball player of all time. He would pitch the first game right handed and the next left handed. The stories I read about him are phenomenal. He didn't get to play for any team in the north.
As far as the sympathy thing Mike. My guess is that those who have animosity don't have a conscience concern anyway. Those who have never had any animosity won't have anything on their conscience to be worried about.

Yep I believe we southerners got over the slavery think much sooner and easier as well than the northeners. I never owned any slaves nor did my ancestors and wouldn't today even if it were legal.
