Where is that Soap? Sure is pretty country, thanks for sharing.

The Niobrara starts on the far eastern side of Wyoming and runs just a couple miles before entering Nebraska. It then travels through nearly the full length of Nebraska before entering the mighty Missouri in the northeastern corner of the state. The river runs by just about ten miles south of our ranch. Some of our yearling heifers spent the summer on the south side of the Niobrara on grass rented from a neighbor.

There aren't near enough evergreen trees to be on our part of the Niobrara! We had absolutely gorgeous colors this fall, but I never carried a camera with me.

Was there a big outfit ran exotic cattle on the Niobra in the 70's-I think they were called the Arabia Ranch or something and ran Maines-I kind of recall their adds in the old Better Beef business magazine. It sure looks like it would be good country to winter cows in.

Yep, the Arabia Ranch is still going, just not in the big way it was years ago. It could still be a show place, with some work. They are about 20 miles east of Valentine.

How come I can remember an add I saw 40 years ago but not my own name some days lol. I'd like to get down to Nebraska on a cow tour again I haven't been for a few years.

Heck, Northern rancher, why don't you just come down. Maybe we could arrange a ranchers net get together in Valentine. Probably couldn't form a ranch tour, but there are a lot of Ranchers net people near here. We would probably learn more just spending some time talking to each other anyway. Valentine is just a little town, about 3500, but I bet they would sure welcome you.

Soapweed:

Isn't Bear Creek somewher near your neck of the woods. In 1857 some of Lt, Warren's men camped for about 2 weeks on Bear Creek about this time of the year. They called it Little Rapid Creek then. Warren was a topagraphical Engineer, he had some biological and geolodical people with him. Warren had taken about a half of his men to explore a part of the Black Hills, the rest were waiting for him before going on down the Niobrara. It was said it rained seven of the twelve days they were there. When Warren arrived they had a 2 day snow storm, so didnt start out again for a few days. When they did start they said the ground was frozen. I think they started out on Oct. 19.

Soapweed, I watched a piece on Post Cards from Nebraska on the waterfalls on your river. I kept waiting for a shot of some cattle being waded through water. But I reckon that it isn't PC or TV worthy. Pretty County none the less.
