Just bought the Wii game, everyone loves it.......Got me thinking..as fun as Wii is,do people still play cards or board games together as family.or is that not the case?....When I was a kid my mother and grandmother were huge card players...Our family card game was called Sqaw rummy....I remember many snowed in days my mother player cards with us at the kitchen table.....We also used to play the board games .Sorry, snakes and ladders, monopoly and my personal favorite "Operation"....loved that game.....but hated the buzzer ...My brother and I would fight during battleship so we got banned from playing it..it was fun too... :)

So I thought I would ask if some of you grew up on cards/board games as family time or if you still do.....If so what card game is it you play most.....Also did you or do you still play board games?,which ones?....

we sit down often and play spades, hearts, or spoons...now we are enjoying texas holdem.....

wife and I can not play monopoly together anymore....she is too hard to make trades with.

Well, the other night we ran off some pictures of Obama, and then drew on them to make them look like someone else, and then tried to guess who it was. It was actually alot of fun.

once, during an epic battle over Monopoly, I had to go to the bathroom, and I was affraid to leave my holdings un attended, so she had to sit outside the bathroom door and sing, so I knew she was not robbing me blind!!!

it gets that intense here....no one likes to lose!

When the children were growing up we got rid of the TV and bought board games, we still have a closet full, and get them out when the kids visit, have a chess game going on with daughter at the moment.

Every time we all get together its games of some sort. A favorite is a hunting and fishing trivia game!!My kids learned all sorts of card games from gregs parents including crib,Greg nor I can play crib, stupid counting...lol

I've tried too dang hard to find a Wii here in Alta. Think I'll wait now until after Xmas... :?

Guess you lucky if that's the only cheatin' she's doing.

We play crib quite a bit. Used to play a game after lunch everyday in the winter. :)

Had a couple hot games of Chinese Checker with my Mom and Dad my sister and my son awhile back. Brought back many memories. :)

Heh, we have the Farming Game :D And another one that's like the ranching game, or whatnot. My parents & siblings used to play games together once in awhile, doesn't happen anymore, specially since I'm the only kid left at home. My dad's side of the family is big on spoons, I got a bunch of my friends hooked on it :) along with other card games like B'S

Anyone else have the Farming Game?
It comes out over Christmas and like Monopoly can last a long time.

We do. I always try to buy Rattlesnake Ridge and Toppenish Ridge so I can run cattle. It seems like whoever buys fruit makes the most money and wins the game. :(

Other favorites of ours are Chess, Cribbage, Yahtzee, and Scrabble.

My grandmother liked Canasta, Rummy, Rook, and Chinese Checkers. We played a lot of those games when we stayed in town with her during winter storms when it would be nearly impossible to travel to and from the ranch. Many times she would wake us up real early so we could "play a few hands" before school. Sometimes we'd mention that we should start walking to school, and she's say, "We probably have time for one more quick hand." She was quite a lady. :)

I also had the same grandmother as Soapweed so I also played a lot of cards with her. It brings back great memories. I also remember playing rummy and chess with Soapweed and my personal favorite as a child was playing pitch and rounding up members of my family so we had enough to play. Now we play a lot of cribbage and my daughter just got "Catch Phrase" for her birthday and we stayed up until midnight last Saturday playing that.

Come on up, and we'll do it again. Someone might get an over-sized Scrabble game for Christmas with twice the letters and playing board space. Might be fun.

I thought at first by "over-sized" you meant a scrabble game that had bigger letters for us over and under 50's to see better.

Yup, the "Farming Game" is a good one and gets better the longer the game goes. Sometimes, though, it gets a little to realistic for me . . .

Others that we have almost played to death on stormy days are "Stock Ticker" and "Careers", also that murder/mystery game - I can't remember the name - "Mrs. Plum in the kitchen with the lead pipe . . .etc.".
