The press is speculating that Montana Gov Schweitzer could be Obamas pick for Ag Secretary...At least we know he is pro AMERICAN agriculture, pro M-COOL, pro Limitations on integration/consolidation of the Packing Industry, pro Packer Ownership ban, anti wide open Free Trade agreements- and pro Fair Trade...

It would be refreshing to have someone that supports America and the American economy again over the corporate interests, every foreign producer, and multinational corporations... :)

Agriculture: Brian Schweitzer, a rancher seeking his second term as governor of Montana, is a top prospect to run Agriculture under Obama. But Schweitzer has insisted during his re-election bid that the only job he wants is “right here in Montana.” It remains to be seen whether his tune changes once the 2008 elections are over.

You been drinking way too much of that uniformed, uneducated, don't bother us with facts, Republican Kool Aid again Faster Horses...You are flat WRONG!!!!

Not only did Schweitzer get an A rating from the National Rifle Association- they also endorsed him over the Republican Brown..... He also has made more land available for hunting and sportsmen by expansions of the conservation easement plan and block management than any Governor in history....( I heard Cornwells 100,000+ acre, $5 million conservation easement just went thru- altho that doesn't add much land as they have been block management for years)....

NRA endorses Schweitzer
By CHARLES S. JOHNSON - IR State Bureau - 05/28/08
The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund on Tuesday endorsed Democratic Gov. Brian Schweitzer’s re-election, citing his strong support of the rights of gun owners, hunters and sportsmen.

“He’s just done a great job defending the Second Amendment, hunting, fishing (and) access on the part of the public to public lands,” NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre said in a phone interview after a press conference in Billings. “He also had legislation that secured $10 million for public access. He ended the moratorium on the buffalo hunt after 16 years.”

LaPierre also mentioned that Schweitzer had increased state spending on shooting ranges and made hunter management and block management permanent in Montana.

“You look at his record, and it’s one of achievement,” LaPierre said. “We’re proud to support him for election.”

Schweitzer, a lifetime NRA member, received an A rating from the NRA.

“I’m proud to have the endorsement of the NRA,” Schweitzer said, adding, “I’ve been a big supporter of Second Amendment rights. I believe that people have the right to bear arms.”

Just how would this fool being Ag Sec go towards any anti-gun legislation proposed/endorsed by BHO?

How does one that MIGHT be considered for Ag Sec now all of a sudden pertain to "Social" (not Ag related) legislation counterproductive to recent SCOTUS decisions on "Constitutionality" of any amendments.

Chief of Staff maybe, but certainly not Ag Sec.

Democrats claim 39-point lead in gubernatorial poll; GOP skeptical
By JOHN S. ADAMS Tribune Capitol Bureau • September 24, 2008

HELENA — If a new Montana Democratic Party poll is accurate, then Gov. Brian Schweitzer should have no trouble cruising to a second term in November despite his recently much publicized gaff regarding the 2006 election.

The Montana Democratic Party released a poll to the media this week that shows Schweitzer holding a 39-point lead on Republican challenger Roy Brown of Billings.

GOP pollster's advice: Don't attack Schweitzer
By CHARLES S. JOHNSON
Gazette State Bureau

HELENA - A pollster advised the state Republican Party this summer not to attack Democratic Gov. Brian Schweitzer because of his popularity, but to offer positive policy alternatives.

"Schweitzer has been effective at creating a majority centrist coalition, particularly with women and independents, and this is being driven by improving the state's economy," the Winston Group said in a June 19 memo to the Montana Republican Party.

It added: "Given the environment and the positive view of Schweitzer, the best strategy is to not attack Schweitzer, but on focusing on policy outcomes you want to offer and making positive contrasts with Democrats."

The Washington, D.C., polling company conducted a poll for the Montana Republican Party June 8-9. The Montana Democratic Party obtained a copy of the two-page memo. State Republican Chairman Erik Iverson said the party did commission the poll, with the memo aimed at Republican legislators and legislative candidates.
----------------------

"Part of the message is you can't let the Democrats nationalize the race or even make it a statewide referendum. We're telling each candidate their race needs to be localized and not them versus Brian Schweitzer or them versus the national Democratic Party.

"The reality of the situation is the Republican brand nationwide isn't very strong right now. I don't want them losing because they let their opponents make the race about George Bush or the Iraq war or any other national or state race."
----------------

State Democratic Party spokesman Kevin O'Brien said he found some of the GOP poll information encouraging to Democrats. Fifty-eight percent believe the state is headed in the right direction and 29 percent say the wrong direction, the summary said, and 64 percent have a positive view of the state's economy, with 27 percent disagreeing.

Voters now give Democrats the edge over Republicans in handling the economy and jobs.

Texas- I'm not the greatest fan of Governor BS- and do love to bring him up to make old FH and Hanta yowl   :p  But that said he's definitely an improvement over his Republican predecessor that should have been/ and would have been charged with obstructing justice involving a homicide case if a common person and not the Gov..

And just like with Bush- anybody even half honest would be better then the Bush appointed Ag Secretaries that were nothing but Big Money/Corporate cronies ...

Apparently a large majority of the Montana population likes him and thinks he's competent...
But- popular or unpopular- like or dislike- I don't think anyone should get away with putting out outright FALSEHOODS about these folks....

Its comical how many (R's) anymore can't accept the fact there many are pro-gun (D's) out there too-- except from what I'm seeing there is getting to be a lot more (D's) more fiscally responsible too...

I don't believe most of Billings Gazette because they are also drive-by media and they help Schweitzer in his campaign by writing stories about Herr Schweitzer since he is their hero :pretty:

I really get tired of reading the Gazette's crap....anything repub is on the last page...I'm here, OT and will respond to the rest of your polls, it's that we are calving, and happen to be just a little bit busy.

Boy Hanta- you need to lay off the cultist Kool Aid-- now your blaming and trying to spin off on the Gazette for even an (R) cult sponsored poll that the State Chairman (who is is Rehbergs aide and only got appointed because they couldn't find anyone to take the job- or any money to pay them  ) admits to.....   :p

Just suck it up and admit that Bush's absence of responsibilty, credibility, competency, and fiscal conservatancy- along with his absolute disregard for 200+ years of rule of law has almost left the (R) party floating helpless with no life rafe--- and in Montana an almost total joke....
