Faster Horses--Upcoming Sale

I finally sat down to read the Montana Angus Directory and see an ad for a complete dispersion sale of Hould Angus (Bruce and Linda) Sept 23rd...A lot of OCC and Diamond D bloodlines featured..Selling 350 head- cows, calves, bred heifers...

Sale is going to be in Billings- which I guess is good for most buyers- but sure hell for me- meaning I'd have to haul them 300 miles to get them back to almost where they came from  ...

Interesting. They have been working on that program for some time.
I wonder why the decision to sell?

I know that Bruce Hould is absolultely one of the best feeders
around. He accepts cattle in the fall. Perhaps he is becoming too
busy.

I'll see what I can find out. I hope it isn't for health reasons or family reasons.

My first guess would be the cost of keeping a big herd now with feed prices going sky high....one can only imagine what prices for feed will be this winter.

Heres the answer I got back from JBob Hould on another site...

Oldtimer,

I think that the whole feedlot, farming and all of the commercial cows are maybe taking up to much time and the reg. herd needs to go. I tried to talk him out of it but it is in the making. There is a great deal ot OCC genetics for sale and a very good group of cows.

Hey I am sure if you get anything bought it could come back to Malta and you could pick it up there. I will have a trailer there and could get them as far as Malta for you. Also I am sure that there will be a couple of your neighbors there and could get home that way also.

He is right- this would be one heck of a chance to get some great Ohlde, Diamond D, Wye, Cole Creek bloodlines...Some great moderate sized angus..Most of the bulls he sold last year were in the 4 to 5 frame size- with some 3 frames .. Biggest bull was a 5.8 frame...

Sure glad to see he isn't closing the feeding operation as several around here use him to develop their young bulls and heifers...

Anyone interested in sale catalogs- they list the following e-mail address's... Bruces: [email protected]
