Fawn Calf

For what it's worth, my grandfather and dad raised registered Angus through the late 30's until about 1968. On more than one occasion, I remember dad talking about having a calf that looked exactly like a deer. He thought a buck sired the calf. Some of the cows were in a wooded area that had a number of deer. The calves didn't live. But, my point is, that's been 45 years ago. Dad is still alive but I'm sure he wouldn't remember the blood lines he used.

Yes, it's silly to think that now. But, 45 years ago, was "genetic mutation" in
anyones vocabulary? We have progressed slightly, I'd like to believe. All I meant was, my Dad saw Fawn Calf Syndrome years ago and thought little of it, blew it off as an oddity of nature. Today, it's got everyone's attention because we're more aware? more educated? more media connected? My Dad didn't have a computer to connect with other breeders who may have had the same thing happening.
