Except where the ferry path is.

We'll be losing our Francois Forester, she'll go into service somewhere else. This is the Omenica Princess, she's returning to service for us that cross the Francois. Right now they're doing renos and adding 50' more to her deck.

Your ferry looks similar to the one that cross Lake Diefenbaker. Probably not exactly the same. I have only been on it twice but I noticed that it was made by ACME Mfg. The place Wily coyote got his equipment.

Mattie looks happy. Brann seems to be adjusting well to.

Why don't you walk up to a mirror with your camera and snap a picture for us? :D

Out here on the prairies, we call those ling cod "ugly damn things" (well, I do anyways). Actually, they are called burbot here. Right now, there's fishing derbies on every weekend targeting them, I hear they are quite active at this time of year. Personally, I hope I never catch one. Ugh, they are just plain ugly! Supposed to be good eating if you know how to clean and filet them, I guess you all do.

Mattie is pretty active, but not near as wild as Brann was as a pup   Thank Goodness!!!. Newest thing is to chase and try to catch her shadow!

Why on earth do you want a picture of a mirror? :p

I agree they're ugly!! They look like a cross between a fish and an eel.
This is my first time seeing them up close and personal. They don't look as bad in real life as they do in books, but they're still not pretty.
I think this is the only time of the year they catch Ling Cod here, at least I never hear of it during the summer.
David has lived here all his life, (Owner of Takysie Resort) and he's fished all the waters in this area.. and beyond, so cleaning fish is something he knows well. I'm sure he could do it in his sleep.

What a pretty dog...looks like she's settled in and made her home with ya'll...I can't imagine having to ride a ferry back and forth, looks like fun for awhile, but would get a little scary during bad weather...that little owl is a cutie too...thanks for posting these..enjoyed em...

I like being on the ferry when the wind is high (when there's no ice), its a great ride!!! :D :D
Only time I use the ferry is when I have to go to town. There is a road that you can take around the head of the lake, but its at least an extra hour and a half drive.

Does that ferry run on a cable?

No, no cable.. too far. It runs on 2 1000hp Diesel engines.

You also have the option of sitting in the 'sitting room' if you don't want to stay in your vehicle.

Thanks for the ferry pictures. I can't believe the lake is just freezing up. It's like we don't live in the same hemisphere. :? Those fish need to taste good because boy are the ugly. Kinda like the moose of fish.

The Riverhurst ferry runs 2.2km on a cable. How far does yours run?

They are looking at installing a air bubbler to try and keep the lake open year round and run the ferry all winter.

Its 2 miles across.... about a 15 to 20 minute ride.

This one runs every half hour. I was reading about it and it only has a 250hp engine but it picks up a cable from the water and pulls it's self along. They had quite a bit of trouble a couple years ago just about the time I needed to use it. Says it can haul 200,000lbs. We had a bunch of cars and a couple Grey hound type buses on one crossing

It froze a bit awhile ago, but warmer temps came in and the ice drifted off. Mid to late March should see the ice gone again... depending on the temps. People used to drive their vehicles across the Francois after it froze over. I'd never do that!!!

The Forester is 220ft, and provides space for at least 8 logging trucks and 20 other vehicles, 145 passengers and 5 crew members.

Here is our sailing schedule
