A feedlot owner in Eastern Washington is suing USDA in an effort to change regulations requiring country-of-origin labeling for beef products.

Cody Easterday, owner of Easter Ranches Inc. in Pasco, Wash., contends that COOL already is lowering prices for beef from Canada and Mexico, and U.S. beef isn't fetching a premium price, according to the Associated Press.

USDA declined to comment.

It's obviously lowered some things, but producers here aren't howling because with our dollar being low right now, calf prices have come up considerably. They're no screamin' hell, but better than they were.

Just goes to show how politics works though. We the producer can be taking on water on the portside, but we're too busy smiling at the view on that starboard side to notice.
