Does anyone out there still use this breeding? How close up? Doing some hereford research and any information or anecdotes would be appreciated.

What kind of information are you looking for? Joe Van Newkirk in Ne probably has used the Carpenter cattle as much or more than anyone although he has gotten away from it the past few years as his options have declined. Duncan Herefords in MT had a lot of them too, but not sure how much they are in the Hereford business yet. I think they are good cattle that got passed by by the race for more frame. Lower birthweighht, good uddered, thicker made with some good carcass traits too.

There are very few pure descendents left. I still have some DH Yampa Dominator semen in my tank that I figure on flushing a couple cows too. I did try some Gerber Watchfire 117F on a few cows last year as to bring some of that back into my herd. I visited with a commercial herd in Ne that was really liking their cattle out of him.

I hope this helps.
