Common sense reporting from FOX News (of all sources  ) - but I've always enjoyed listening to Shepard Smith and trusted what he said...

He hit the nail on the head- one party trying to look like they are good leaders and have the situation under control- and the other party trying to show a lack of leadership and trying to create panic thru fearmongering ...

Shepard Smith: 'Do Not Listen To The Hysterical Voices' In The Media About Ebola

Fox News' Shepard Smith railed against the media's Ebola hysteria on Wednesday.

"You should have no concerns about Ebola at all. None. I promise," stated Smith. He went on to tell viewers, "Do not listen to the hysterical voices on the radio and the television or read the fear-provoking words online. The people who say and write hysterical things are being very irresponsible."

He explained: "We do not have an outbreak of Ebola in the United States. Nowhere. We do have two healthcare workers who contracted the disease from a dying man. They are isolated. There is no information to suggest that the virus has spread to anyone in the general population in America. Not one person in the general population in the United States."

The Fox News host emphasized that political gamesmanship is skewing media coverage.
"With midterm elections coming, the party in charge needs to appear to be effectively leading. The party out of power needs to show that there is a lack of leadership," said Smith.

Smith stressed, "I report to you with certainty this afternoon that being afraid at all is the wrong thing to do." He called media-stoked Ebola panic "counterproductive", saying that it "lacks basis in fact or reason."

He acknowledged that Ebola is a serious problem in West Africa, as well as for the victims and their families in Texas, but he pleaded with media outlets to stop fear-mongering about Ebola in the U.S.

"Someday there may be a real panic. Someday, something may start spreading that they can't control. And then, do you know what we're gonna have to do? We're gonna have to relax and listen to leaders. We're not gonna panic when we're supposed to and we're certainly not gonna panic now. We have to stop it."

You and Shepard have a unique view on Leadership, that's for sure.

I thought you said it was the Tea Bagger minority that was in control, by obstructing the President's agenda?

Who are the ones that are trying to look like they have things under control...they had things under control before ebola reached American shores...and then again before health care workers were infected...and then again when only one health care worker had contracted ebola.

Again...who are the ones that are trying to make it look like they have it all under control?

"The initial message is, 'We've got this under control,' and then things start spiraling out of control,"

Looks to me that you have been fooled by Shepard's sarcasm You should read more Borowitz, so as to recognize real news when you read it...

View the tape... No sarcasm- he was rightfully chastising the media and politicians that were trying to create hysteria and panic thru fearmongering...
And two sick health care workers is an out of control situation :???:  Even when the health care leaders had actually predicted their would probably be more...

There will always be the tinfoil hatted conspiracy paranoids (like half the ranchersnet crew) trying to scare folks and screaming the sky is falling -- but Shep set it out pretty straight for the common sense folks that can see reality...

you confuse sense of urgency with panic, and complacency with leadership

Do you even know the difference between proactive and reactive? How about the definition of preparedness...

and the "other party" is not trying to show lack of leadership...they are sitting back and watching the Democrats prove their lack of leadership...

...the Republicans will take the Senate in 3 weeks and it's not because of their platform, but because of the Democrats'.

I have never seen a party in such a position to gain the majority, with less of a campaign or articulated reasons to vote for them...

...the obama disaster, lack of leadership, will win 2014 for the Republicans.

I'd say a herd of donkeys could win the Senate, after 6 yrs. of obama, but I'd be wrong...

Dude, we have transmissions through hazmat suites, and we don't know how it happened. It's not irrational to be extremely alarmed. When the party pushes the party line of " transmission was due to broken protocol" that's simply not good enough for thinking people. Now if the party said the nurse broke protocol by using her teeth to remove infected gloves, that is a reason.
The economy is in recession looking for an excuse to melt down, what happens when everyone holes up?

4500 a month entering the US from the worst ebola effected countries. What could possibly happen, especially given the 21 day incubation period? Nothing to see here.

Is 21 day incubation period even on the high side?

Sick man takes a dump daily. Takes a whiz about every hour or so. Takes a shower. Gets his clothes washed. Probably around 100 gallons a day.

That goes into the city sewage treatment. Solids are raked off and it goes to the land fill. Water goes through some clarifiers. By now it is mixed thoroughly with about a billion or so gallons, give or take. Some go through ultra violet light and other water systems finally go through chlorination. By now it has been on the settling ponds for a few days. Ducks and geese land on those ponds. Rats. The media hasn't even thought of addressing this yet.

Then there are those who have septic systems. The tree huggers (your buddies OT) have been crying for years about ecoli all through the rivers.

The dead man existed in society for a while before he was isolated. Who washed his clothes? Where did he bathe? Where did his sewage go?

Have they contained all sewage from the latest two victims? They were decontaminating an apartment complex. Did they catch all the sewage out of that apartment complex?

OT still doesn't get it.

The threat is not from death by ebola. The threat is the negative rippling effect in the economy caused by people altering the habits because of fear of dying from ebola.

The president and CDC have done nothing to reassure Americans that they're on top of the issue. Nothing.

This whole thing actually is a perfect storm for the HNIC and the upcoming elections. After months and months of illegals flooding the border and being redistributed all over the US by the feds, the ebola scare takes place.

The trustusmongers are going to get routed the first Tues in November.

Exactly right. There was a report on caring for the victims in quarantine ICU. There was a sterilizing solution dumped in the toilet water and let set for fifteen minutes before flushing, but unless they're in hospital quarantine that doesn't happen.
