This is another veto that has not endeared old GW into the hearts and souls of many local folks-- since this included authorization of a project- the rebuilding of the Saint Mary's diversion pipeline that had been worked on for years- by both parties-- and pretty much meant the life blood of many area towns for drinking water and agriculture along the entire Milk River drainage and the hi-line of Montana during 6 out of 10 years....

Last week when GW vetoed it- his local opinion and the names he was being called was lower than a rattlesnake

Yep--the new modern Republican philosophy as practiced by King George--squander billions$ around the world nation building--but don't spend a dime on updating or maintaining local infrastructure- or protecting the US citizen within the US..... :( :(

Congress Hands Bush First Veto Override

By CHARLES BABINGTON

WASHINGTON -- President Bush suffered the first veto override of his seven-year-old presidency Thursday as the Senate enacted a $23 billion water resources bill despite his protest that it was filled with unnecessary projects.

The 79-14 vote included 34 Republicans who defied the president. Enactment was a foregone conclusion, but it still marked a milestone for a president who spent his first six years with a much friendlier Congress controlled by his Republican Party.

Now he confronts a more hostile, Democratic-controlled legislature, and Thursday's vote showed that most of the Republicans will defy him on spending matters dear to their political careers.

The bill funds hundreds of Army Corps of Engineers projects, such as dams, sewage plants and beach restoration, that are important to local communities and their representatives. It also includes money for the hurricane-hit Gulf Coast and for Florida Everglades restoration efforts.

The House voted 361-54 to override the veto Tuesday. Both votes easily exceeded the two-thirds majority needed in each chamber to negate a presidential veto.

The super rich in New Jersey thank you...

A $136 million authorization for construction of the Sea Isle City and portions of Strathmere beach replenishment project and periodic renourishment over 50 years

* average price for a home in Sea Isle...mil + ,..Strathmere well it's super exclusive.... if a home is for sale.....it's extremely high priced...

New Jersey received a 480 million dollar bite from the pie..most of going for beach replenishment projects to protect multi-million dollar homes....and even thirty mil for a needed project...

Yep it was full of pork to the tune of 450 million just for our poor little state... and I am sure the thirty million to remove an anchor is a little pricey....

(oh yea they needed to pay for the nigerian oil companies spill)...

Good to see him finally veto some spending. People can spin it all they want and many may be true.

All I care is the spending stop especially all the pork. Just to bad Bush did not stop spending years ago.
